Intro gameplay -
We are making a game inspired by the 90's classics we grew up with as kids. Banjo, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Conker etc. Its a comedy action adventure game. We use ABS combat. The Game is 100% voice acted. All the art and music are custom made. Its a open world game, though you unlock the world completing the main story.
Story:
The game starts with the player learning that the hero have already killed The Dark Overlord. But, somehow, the game hasn't ended yet. The big "THE END" screen has not yet dawned upon the skies. So the badguys tries to find a new villain. You play as the minion of The Dark Overlord. A little Imp named Dark. You have to travel trough the world to find a new villains whilst crossing famous RPG stereotypical characters and gameplay functions.
The game is being made by NoLoot Studios. A Norwegian game developer with a lot of plans for future games in other engines. NoLoot Studios wanted to give RPG-Maker a better reputation by making a fully functional game that can inspire people into becoming devs themselfs.
The Game:
The game is being made in RPG Maker MV. We wanted to give the engine a lot of credit. Because its the engine that made the lead designer fall in love in game development. He made two games as a kid in RPG Maker 2000. Monkey Thinkers 1 and 2. It was a Final Fantasy parody. We use a lot of time when making A Broken Tale recording sounds, making music or drawing art. The most time consuming aspect of the game is making the Musical songs. We have to record them if different studios far away from each other, so all of the planing is being done online. We are Norwegians, but the game is being made in different locations in Norway.
Inspiration:
Conker badfurday is our main inspiration. Banjo and Kazooie is our main inspiration music-wise. The Game is inspired by a lot of different games like Zelda or Final Fantasy, though the first two mentions are the ones that really kicked this game into gears. Big goofy eyes and wacky lines are essential to the game's being. As a kid, the main developer drew cartoon characters based on the games he played. He wanted to capture the child-like art style in this game, so it is supposed to look good, but not, good-good. Like a well crafted childrens drawing.
We hope you guys support us. We hope to finish this game soon. It has taken us more than 4 years (at current date) to create.
If we have any questions, please contact NoLoot Studios.
Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
