Hi all,

I want to create an app to manage tiles. Mostly for my own need and if there is enough interest I will make it publicly available. (I will show a preview once there is enough to show!)

I know the A tiles are a bit more complicated so I will skip over them for now and concentrate on the other 4.

So my questions are:

1- Is there a maximum to the length of a tiles set?

2- Is there a difference between B to E tiles? Or they are all treated the same?

3- I have seen some tiles sets being wider than 8 tiles, is that allowed? If so, what is the maximum?

Thanks!

8 tiles only applies to RMXP, not Ace at all (they show up as 8 wide in the editor, but the images are actually 16 tiles wide). And none that are wider would even work with Ace.

B-E tiles are all the same, and are treated all the same - 16x16 tiles.

All of the A tiles are different sizes and/or formatted differently - they are very specific about what goes where, and in which slot of your tileset.

The help file has all the details listed under Resources. You can also export the RTP tilesets and have a good look at them to try and understand how they are built and how they behave in the engine.

There's one tiny exception: TileB. The top left corner of TileB should be left empty.

Ok, to recap:

All tiles sets must be 512x512, which means 16 tiles x 16 tiles, each tile being a 32px square.

And first 32x32px of TileB must be empty.

Easy enough, now the hard part to actually build the app...

Thanks guys.

Also important to note: the tileset will be split in half when it's shown in the editor. So treat it like two tilesets glued together down the middle (in case you make a graphic that covers more than one tile, and you end up with a weird split graphic in the editor). So try containing everything in two 256x512 areas.

Alain, if you came up with a way to track who to credit for each tile, it would be dreamy. =]

GrandmaDeb: Already have this on my todo list. What I am planning to do is WAY above and beyond that.  I should have first version by the end of the month.

B-E tilesets only have these dimensions. The A tilesets are all different.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
