Even if the movie will show on theaters on Nov 22, you might not know that it was already shown in Mexico in time for "El dia de muertos" and it has been a huge success here. It's a great movie, one of the best i have seen from Pixar, yet i have to wonder if it will be a complete disaster and flop horribly in the US and the rest of the world...
I was very very skeptic about the idea... Disney making a movie about such an old and traditional mexican celebration? It seemed impossible that they could make anything but a watered down setting and an US adapted version of the mexican traditions... but i was very very wrong.
Unlike what i feared, the movie is the real thing... it shows a very convincing portrayal of a mexican rural town, complete with very realistic family values from mexico. The spanish dub is just perfect, the songs are beautiful, it's very respectful of all the mexican traditions. I was very surprised. I almost cry in several moments and that is no small feat... yet i wonder what will happen when the movie is released on the US and other countries.
Will people be turned off by how "mexican" the whole movie feels? It would be very sad if the movie does badly
In any case, if you are thinking about watching the movie, i can say it's a great movie and very authentic... as a Mexican i can feel very proud about how my culture was shown on it
