Hopefully it won't all be obsolette by the time the new RPG MX is out, i hear it utilizes java and not ruby

Programming skill is something different than programming language.
Whenever I hear someone saying "I can program in X but not in Y" (substitute Ruby for X, javascript for Y as an example, goes for every programming language), then I know that I'm talking to one of the "cargo cult" programmers.


If you know how to program - if you really understand what programming is, then you need only a reference book to be able to program in every programming language in existance.


However, if you're focused on the syntax and wording of a programming language and can't understand other languages, then you're still at the level of the cargo cult programmers who don't understand the logic behind the syntax.

@BigEd781: Thanks for posting this thoughtful article. The journey from syntax to semantics occurs in several fields. It's the difference between the letter and the spirit. To learn scripting we need both.
