Hi *howl*
I'm Wolf and I'm new here (doh). I've been hearing great things about RPG Maker for a long time now, and recently I discovered the new MV edition in my Steam discovery queue so I was intrigued. I wasn't going to actually buy it since it's on the expensive side (definitely not overpriced for what you're getting in return, but 75€ is not a small amount of money either), but then I discovered there was a trial version so I couldn't see why not to give it a try *woof*
It's been just over 24 hours since, and I've already made a three map RPG which, though using the vanilla stuff, is already quite customized. I adjusted the entire combat system, made a completely dark dungeon with torches using Terrax Lighting plugin, dabbled in some parallaxing etc. I watched and read a lot of tutorials and I am very, very happy with the software. It performs exactly as advertised so far. This RPG isn't a serious attempt, just a game I am developing to try out all the things I can think of and all the tutorials I am going through. It's my practice dummy
*woof*
Anyhow, my current goal is to get the most I can out of the 20 days of trial, maybe even create a small time RPG in the end, and ultimately being able to decide whether or not I stand a chance at actually making a real RPG and selling it for a couple bucks. If my answer is yes, then I will purchase RPG Maker MV and get to work when life allows it later this year. Don't get me wrong, I am not in it for the money. I don't even like money. I really love the process of creating things - stories, characters, maps, worlds... And an RPG is something that binds all of that together, but if I'm going to buy this program I just want to make sure that I have a chance of actually succeeding in my ideas. My biggest problems would be the tilesets and music, which I doubt I'd be able to make myself and all RPGs using free assets kinda look and feel the same so I fear mine wouldn't make an impact.
I understand the community is awesome here though, so I'm really hopeful for now. I am continuing to play with the editor as I type this. Wish me luck! *rawrrr*
