Hi *howl*

I'm Wolf and I'm new here (doh). I've been hearing great things about RPG Maker for a long time now, and recently I discovered the new MV edition in my Steam discovery queue so I was intrigued. I wasn't going to actually buy it since it's on the expensive side (definitely not overpriced for what you're getting in return, but 75€ is not a small amount of money either), but then I discovered there was a trial version so I couldn't see why not to give it a try *woof*

It's been just over 24 hours since, and I've already made a three map RPG which, though using the vanilla stuff, is already quite customized. I adjusted the entire combat system, made a completely dark dungeon with torches using Terrax Lighting plugin, dabbled in some parallaxing etc. I watched and read a lot of tutorials and I am very, very happy with the software. It performs exactly as advertised so far. This RPG isn't a serious attempt, just a game I am developing to try out all the things I can think of and all the tutorials I am going through. It's my practice dummy :D *woof*

Anyhow, my current goal is to get the most I can out of the 20 days of trial, maybe even create a small time RPG in the end, and ultimately being able to decide whether or not I stand a chance at actually making a real RPG and selling it for a couple bucks. If my answer is yes, then I will purchase RPG Maker MV and get to work when life allows it later this year. Don't get me wrong, I am not in it for the money. I don't even like money. I really love the process of creating things - stories, characters, maps, worlds... And an RPG is something that binds all of that together, but if I'm going to buy this program I just want to make sure that I have a chance of actually succeeding in my ideas. My biggest problems would be the tilesets and music, which I doubt I'd be able to make myself and all RPGs using free assets kinda look and feel the same so I fear mine wouldn't make an impact.

I understand the community is awesome here though, so I'm really hopeful for now. I am continuing to play with the editor as I type this. Wish me luck! *rawrrr*

Heya, welcome to the forums.

Glad you got such a superb first impression of the program and that you're having a blast with it :)

The price point is a bit high if you don't have the disposable income. However, in the end it's worth every penny. A fun thing to keep in mind as well is that you don't -need- the program to continue developing your game. You can use a number of subforums in this community to get feedback on your ideas and concepts and then there's always spreadsheets and text/word documents to plan out your database and storyline.

In any event, good luck and make sure you don't start gnawing on the keyboard.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forums, if you end up getting RMMV fully, then I look forward to seeing you around. (Even if you end up staying in spite of not getting it.)

Ah, a fellow canine. Thank you for the welcome *woof*

So far so good. The most likely scenario right now is that I'll do as much as I can with the time I have left, and then commit to my other creative projects (need to update a few websites, write a book, and catch up on games I bought but have not yet had a chance to play). Once all that is done, sometime later this year, I will be able to focus on RPG making again. Maybe then MV will be on sale, even.

Meanwhile I will try to do all the work I can that does not require the program, such as planning the game, creating characters and backgrounds etc. So when I get back to it, I'll be able to make some real progress *woof*

Don't forget, aspiring writers: Personality isn't what your characters do, it is WHY they do it.
Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
Sadly I don't know how that would be possible so I would be needing help! If you can help me in any way I would really apreciate it!
