Graseia, a peaceful kingdom beknown to neighboring kingdoms.
Lloyd V. Freigen, to be crowned as a prince has found out the conspiracy
of his father, Xander J. Freigen, the king. Having found out that the
kingdom he knew was a lie, Lloyd has escaped from the castle and
started to investigate and search for the King's collaborators.
He then reaches a town, half way far from Graseia, there he meets a
girl by the name of Yuri Kanzaki, a normal girl who is in a lot of trouble
since Yuri is somehow involved in a Murder case!
In order to hide from the Graseia guards, Lloyd is forced to pretend
as a Detective and solve cases even though he has not the slightest
knowledge about how solving cases is done!
How would this go? I must say...

A Kingdom by the sea is a 2D sprite based fantasy RPG video game set in a Fantasy world.

This project is also in collaboration with Stratos XV.
Has no battle and etc, just Investigative stuff.
Puzzle, Patterns, Murders, Crimes, Suspect
Find all of them even though you're not really a detective!

Lloyd V. FreigenThe second prince of Graseia. Lloyd is not with the idea of his Father and brother on using violent measures on people who go against them, Lloyd is the type of a person that has a strong sense of justice. He's also second in sword fighting in the Kingdom, apart from his brother who is the first.

Yuri Kanzaki - Once a normal girl from a very quiet town and a neutral one at that, but everything changed for her after he met lloyd.

Lavinnia Froschen - The queen of Ravena The City of Elves. She's a fierce one since she and the King of Graseia are not in good terms, but develops an interest in Lloyd.

Edward V. Freigen - The older brother of Lloyd. Both of them are not really in the same page but there are also times that they do. Edward is a very faithful and a loyal son to his Father, the King.

Xander J. Freigen - The King of Graseia. A very secretive person, he would do anything to get what he wants, be it a bloody one or an impossible thing.

The mapping is excellent here. Very similar to our project. Were the character busts commissioned, or a paid existing resource? If you don't mind me asking.

This looks really well thought out and put together. I'm looking forward to updates.

Curious as to who drew those portraits though?

It's looking nice but don't forget to credit your audio related resources too! ;)

The mapping was quite nice and Hirei's GUI elements look fantastic! Graphically, I would say this game is quite eye-catching.

  • mapping is nice, love how Ancient Dungeons is used
  • great GUI and menu elements, huge thumbs up on those
  • Nice character art as well

I understand that this is an early, early alpha and that many of these things will be addressed but here are my thoughts from what I was presented today. I'm aware that this is a work in progress but this demo probably came out too early.

  • some of this audio sounds damaged; the title screen music in particular is an extremely damaged file. What happened!?
  • many of the songs are balanced too loudly, I really would recommend adjusting some levels in the editor or providing an audio balance in the options
  • if you load a save from the title screen it plays the title screen music instead of the castle music
  • most if not all the tiles can be walked through
  • The intro's font is beautiful but it's also extremely hard to read, especially with the flowers dangling in front of it
  • I found Lloyd a little unlikable actually, especially after the scene in the train car
  • For a mystery/detective game I would have expected objects to be interact-able
  • Reading the dialogue I have a hard time understanding if this game is suppose to be a serious title or a parody. There are sentences like "troubles in which I am not capable of fixing" which sounds like forced fantasy speak juxtaposed with "punk" "hyped" "let's hit it," so I think there is sort of an identity crisis here.
  • None of the em dashes close, some of ellipses have 2 dots while others have 3, and I saw a few other grammatical and formatting errors. So, I think more editing is needed.
  • I also don't really understand why we're given control of Lloyd just to walk over one room, be sent to a sleep sequence, and then have control taken away again.
  • While I understand this is a short demo, there was no game play presented aside for a brief moment of walking through all the tiles. This is above all, the most problematic thing with the demo. It was only a rather long intro. I didn't get to do anything, really.
I hope that wasn't too rough! I'll definitely be happy to try a second demo. I understand it's very early and that there is a lot to do, but it's important to address these sorts of issues early on so you don't have players making a quick judgement of what the finished game is going to be like. Hope this helps!

Thank you so so so much for that wide and very informative opinion, I'm not the best english speaker.. or writer so sorry about those lapses, and worry not, I'll have them fixed right away. Other than that, The music! okay I'll adjust them oh and Lloyd, I'll be changing his dialogue, all of them. This was just like a test or something, thats not who he really is (Sorry about the Identity crisis part) :D The part where you said the sound files are damaged? I really find that strange since I didnt have that kind of thing :/ everything works fine. (First time ever heard of it)And again, Thank you so so so much!

They're a paid existing resource, I just found these on deviant art and it seemed perfect for this game.

If you listen to the "main theme" you will probably hear a lot of "hssssss" and I hear skipping in the beginning, too. Might need headphones on to catch it but I can hear it without. I checked on a number of my sound systems and it's very present to me on all of them.

I went ahead and checked and I couldn't notice the hissing much on my speakers, but, I could on two pairs of headphones that I tried.  One of which was my gaming headset, the other pair was my mixing headphones.

Okay.. Those graphics were indeed made by Hirei.. But they were not made for your game

Same messagebox, take away the bust and you'll have the same background. I knew it looked familiar. I know because I played a demo of this game. Did you rip it or crack it open?

Also, I noticed that you use pre-existing maps made by other people..

Both from Celianna.

Pandamaru.

And hey, that messagebox/font also looks familiar!

Pirate Rush..

Not cool man, not cool.

He mad, but he cute :kaopride:

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
