this might sound crazy but
would a persona-like gameplay design work on a god eater-like world

like say, you have to rank up on an S.link to increase proficiency on your weapon
and maybe as you become more courageous, monsters will become easier
the more charm, your pets would become stronger or more loyal
maybe with more intelligence you would be able to carve in more loot from the monsters

those ideas can be realize through plugins and events
but i just want to know if it would be sensible to mix those two together or should i mix it or add something else

edit: what battle system would be good for this kind of game

If you're going to ask stuff like this, you have to explain everything (that is relevant to the question) about what "persona-like gameplay design" or "a god eater-like world" is supposed to mean. I for one have no idea what the setting of god eater is, and someone who hasn't played Persona would have no idea what S.-Links are or how they work.

but i just want to know if it would be sensible to mix those two together or should i mix it or add something else
Again, I'm flying blind since I only know of one out of your two references. But I can say that Persona is already, in and of itself, a mix of genres (JRPG + Time Management Game + Slice-of-Life VN-like Life Sim + Dungeon Crawler). If anything, I'd be quicker to recommend stripping away one or two elements from a Persona game rather than adding even more. I can also say that Persona works so well because the storytellers have a great grasp of how to mix light and shade - there are times where it feels very carefree, and others where it feels very tense, and they push the tone back and forth on the spectrum in a very controlled, deliberate manner. As you design the little details of your plot, make sure there's room for both if you want to go for everything that Persona's gameplay offers (rather than just part of it).

I know remarkably little about God Eater, except that it uses a stamina system, you can (must?) craft upgrades to weapons, customization of your character's appearance and has limited multiplayer options, or you can have AI-controlled team mates.

Stick that on top of the game play variety of Persona, as detailed by Wavelength, and I think that, unless you are a genius-level developer, you would end up with an unholy mess.

I think, actually, that this sounds really cool. I like it a lot.
Mechanically, at least, I don't think there's anything wrong with the idea. But working through the details will definitely be a challenge.
For instance, there's a fusion of a lot of elements here:
  • Powerful Bosses*
  • Monster Carves
  • Individual Player stats (like Intelligence, Courage, etcetera)
  • Slice-of-Life avenues by which to increase these stats.
  • S-Links; NPCs with story and multiple levels of friendship
  • Dungeons?
  • Weapons that Upgrade
  • You also mention Pets
Is that everything? When a player approaches this game, they have to be able to navigate all six or seven of these mechanics. But like the others say, you've definitely got to watch out to make sure that the game doesn't get too complicated. You'll probably have to take out some aspects of the two games to make sure that it doesn't become a mess. I mean, that's just what happens when a complicated thing combines with another complicated thing.
I think the spirit of the idea is definitely something worth exploring, for sure. As long as it doesn't get to be too much.

*I've also not played God Eater, but I think that's a big part of it...?

i was actually thinking of taking out some aspects like

dungeons and of course the personas
i would instead use a pet ally that would attack automatically
and some other things i want to change and add to the design that's a little hard to explain

@Chris-Kun I'm not a mod, but I think I should tell you that Wavelength's opening statement is something you should listen to. You should explain the games that you use as examples when trying to make a point. It's in the forum rules. I'm actually a bit surprised Kes didn't call you out on this, so maybe it is forgivable.

Come to think of it, I think I broke the forum rules by calling you out on breaking forum rules even though I'm not a mod... Oops.

@Nutty171 yep, mini modding. Though you are right in your advice.

@Chris-Kun please explain what you want. You can't rely on everyone having played the same games you have.

@Kes you should make me a mod :p
Edit: Just realized I'm breaking another rule by taking attention away from OP. Sorry.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
