Checked the screenshots on the Steam page, and not seeing anything notable at first glance. It looks largely the same, but with altered UI icons and an RTP in similar style?

Had hopes that we get highquality tilesets like in XP, these were the best and not another Ace/MV style.
Well I think thats not gonna happen, but that would have been the only reason to buy it at release for me.
Some new features are fine yes, but I doubt they will be so great that I need them immediately, I can wait until the new one isnt that expensive anymore.

The character sprites look better and it's an improvement. The other features seem like they would be great to have but may not be enough for most to switch over, at least for the time being.

I do like that there's going to be more assets and that the assets seem like they can be transferred over to MV.

The whole MV/MZ thing is going to be very, very confusing!

One thing that has my interest is this:
Playing a Game
RPG Maker MZ makes it much easier for users to play games! We will reveal more details in the coming days. Get ready to be wowed!

I guess we'll see!

Well, now we know a little more I have some thoughts.

The logo looks awful... as in it looks like the sort of bad logo most kids who just picked up Photoshop for the first time in order to make a logo for their first RPGM game which is a 50 hour generic fantasy that never gets finished kind of awful, so I guess its technically hitting its target demographic perfectly. Got some bland fonts with a stroke outside and a gradient on top there, if they chucked a bevel on top I would say they would have PERFECTLY nailed that Steam porn RPGM releases aesthetic. I guess this is a backhanded compliment? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm surprised so many people are upset about it requiring 8gb RAM though? What year is it? I know a lot of kids are using hand me down computers but come on. My decade-old MacBook had 16gb RAM. I know not everyone is lucky enough to have 32gb like I do for work I do but jeez...

New RTP looks nice and pixelated, not that I would ever use it but here's hoping its a sign of pixel scaling.

I like the new icons, much less "toy" like.

"RPG Maker MZ will make RPG Making faster and easier than ever before. But making it easier wasn’t our only aim, this RPG Maker aims to be the most powerful for experienced developers as well."

I wonder if this push for being more powerful for experienced developers is a reaction to how many high profile indie RPGs had successful demos (Glitched, Zodiac, etc) but then moved onto GMS once they were kickstarted or managed to land independent funding because RPGMV was too limited for releases outside of Steam. It's not a good look for your engine when successful project Kickstarters are launched off its back only for the engine to be dropped like a hot potato soon after.

That's all for now, join me again this time next week for more thoughts on things I have no business thinking about (that said in the next couple of months I will have 5 MV releases under my belt so maybe I'm more qualified than I think).

Yeah and it was kinda the same for Trinity, all the new QoL stuff were in the sub menus.

Well disappointing so far.

Unless the new features are really powerful the only thing that'd sell me on MZ now is full plugin forward compatibility. i.e. being able to use most plugins from MV in MZ (its a dream). Though honestly as it is, without DragonBones support I can't see myself upgrading.

So, what is the update timing going to be from now on?
News every thursday, or more frequently?

Since it says it is going to release this summer, the window closes in like 3 1/2 month.
Gonna be honest, I am not too pumped right now, but then again, right now we haven't gotten that much info.

So far I feel this is a fail launch (really let down). Not enough information, interface almost LOOKS the same as MV (zero wow factor, icon changes only).
They need to give me something to make me buy this product. Lets hope the generator will not be a let down.

I'd imagine possible next month will be the release.
Also the steam page and web page does say there's a bunch of stuff to get ready to be wowed about lol

For now I'm cautiously optimistic. It would be awesome to have a mapping system like in XP where you can use autotile above the characters (for woods for example) and without the ugly square look.

And I'm curious about the RTP (not only the tilesets but the music, title screens, face sets and so on). I really like the style of the title screen we can see in one screenshot. Hopefully they come in high resolution.

I like how the tilesets are all pixel art again :) the soupy painted tilesets drove me nuts. It's not like. Great pixel art. But it's simple and easy to replicate.
Indeed it's looking a bit more pixelated, still it's not pixel art. The art style is very similar tbh. Entacl created the MV RTP and I'm guessing it was the same group making MZ's. So... not pixel art.

From what little I can see on the Steam page, it does look like it's no more a balloon head.
If we compare to XP's characters, it's definitely a balloon.

So far I strongly dislike the art. I guess I'll make my own RTP. lol
Dammit I miss RMXP.

I really didn't expect much from this version. Even being the longest interval between RPG Maker versions, the MV brought great changes and it would be dream too much hope that would happen twice in a row. But I didn't expected so few either. Maybe it was more interesting wait more one or two week to announce, when bigger news could be informed. The just thing that I can see is a new layer menu among mapping tools. If this is exactly what I am thinking about now you’re talking! Until now, my single happiness is the launch date it's earlier than others. Anyway, patience is a virtue.

Portuguese appearing on supported languages forces me to ask: the translation is fine this time? Because, initially, some translated terms on RPG Maker MV turned into jokes and reppeat this fault is... sad. Reforcing what @Rafael_Sol_Maker said, if help is needed, we are here.

jeez I don't think i can exclusively get up at 3 AM just to like barely see anything. It's 830 rn and I just read through like 5 pages of info for basically: oh here's the name and like 5-6 images more comming soon.
Like i can't lie the new overworld tiles look like you upped the color saturation on the MV ones. I'm not impressed by this announcement so far. Other than just what's new that was stated to be better/ improved parts that will be coming. Like, esp with how negative MV was received in this thread, it'd be better to have your anouncements Show more not just tell.

Wow.

Well, I woke up this morning fairly excited for the announcement, and now I just find myself a bit disappointed with the lackluster reveal. As others have stated, the UI looks almost completely unchanged, short of the superficial icon changes. Looks like it still uses the same tileset format, same art style, same chibi-style characters. I'm not completely judging it as "dead on arrival", but I am not impressed at all so far. As many predicted, this seems to just be RPG Maker MV Ace. It's going to take a few MASSIVE improvements to the engine to justify calling it anything but, in my opinion. Not very good optics, for an engine that's presumably been in development for 4+ years, since most resources for the first year of MV were probably dedicated to updating it.

But this is merely Day 1. I will make my final judgment after more information is released.

*EDIT: After briefly scouring Google for any other possible sources of information, I noticed the main site says this:

"Including all new features, and some fan favorite returning features, RPG Maker MZ will make RPG Making faster and easier than ever before. But making it easier wasn’t our only aim, this RPG Maker aims to be the most powerful for experienced developers as well."

Hence why I'm reserving my final judgment for after we find out exactly what's new, what's the same, and what will make things "faster and easier than ever before", yet also "the most powerful".

I hope, that RTP is gonna be worth it, because there is always some missing graphics, like faces for several people and etc.
Also sad, that there was only 1 face with 1 emotion for each character...

I didn't realize that Deers can grow so big... I almost hit one while going home from work - phew... approx 10cm separated us from accident... (tomorrow link to video from my dashcam). I'm too shocked to think straight.
Just watched a very good drama. It left this very heavy sadness inside me T.T

As a game dev, there's always this other feeling I have after, for example, watching a sad drama: "Understanding +1!"
