So much negativity everywhere these days, huh?
I'll say just wait for the big reveals next Thursday. I agree the screenshots could have been a bit better as it's not showing anything new, but the new or enhanced features haven't even been revealed yet and some of you are just killing it already. There's simply not enough information to even make a decision, too much anxiety everywhere these days, lol!

Insert Owen Wilson GIF here.

Joke aside, this thread is a roller coaster, folks going from disappointment to excited to disappointment to... ad lib.

Let's wait, I'd say it seems promising so far. Needs to wait one more week, then one more week, then...Where has our society's ability to wait gone? It's all impatience and meme now...

I for one welcome our 4 selectable layer overlord.

Please, full compatibility with MV... The possibility of export a full project, with all plugins and same functions. only add-ons and perfomance tweaks. I think the MV have a powerfull engine, and now, we can run 3D objects with Pixy and Babylon.JS, it's very good if the MZ have the same Javascript engine.

no they said plugins wouldn't be compatible it's impossible they changed a lots of of the coding to improve etc so don't expect plugins to be working. it's the same from VX to VX ace

nio kasgami is right, just use RPG maker mv if you like these plugins or wait until they will be released/pay someone to recreate them/ Ask for making them compatible...
My own hope is that even if Yanfly retired her plugins somehow will be in rmmz

Why is it called MZ? I'm surprised no one asked this before. XD

I've been following thoughts on other sites, and I gotta say, this is a bad way to handle the announcements. I dunno what study we are talking about that says this works better, but that study could be wrong. After all there are also studies that prove many bogus things that later got debunked. And you can always find a study that 'proves' a point just due to the 5% chance that you got your result by chance, and not by the real result you wanted.

Consensus online that I've seeing everywhere is more was needed today, as this was seen as a disappointment that nothing more was told, as we coulda been told all of this last week. You take too long to release info and you lose the interest of the audience. And remember, a lot of us have seen hype hype hype before, and just want the facts please now, especially after being burned by Star Citizen and other things that have promised the moon and we're still waiting to be wowed by them.

Well, the screenshots look very familiar so far, but this is a marathon, not a sprint - there's still a lot of time to reveal cool new features that are in the database, the battle system, or even hanging out behind the scenes in the engine's back-end code. Even a few significant changes to improve technical performance and player usability could, for example, foster in a Renaissance of RPG Maker-made mobile games.

A near-complete revamp of the Animation Editor (RPG Maker's most unintuitive and poorly-laid-out editor) sounds like a real possibility, and an exciting one at that!

It sounds like some quality-of-life changes are coming for Plugin Makers (and/or users) as well. I'm looking forward to seeing those. If it also comes with full documentation of the core script libraries (the methods in rpg_objects.js, rpg_windows.js, etc.), this could accelerate MZ's library of community plugins to surpass MV's in the blink of an eye!

I'm feeling cautiously optimistic and I'm still "ready to be wowed". :D

===

@Touchfuzzy The English localization on our Store page could definitely use some work - in particular, the sentence structure and verb choice are really rough. I'm guessing it was translated by a member of the staff who speaks English as a second language? For example:

Events
In RPG Maker, you can use the event function to depict characters' conversations, movement across a map, the placement of treasure chests and other visuals.
You can easily set up the events you employ frequently. You can also copy them and use them freely.
What's most surprising is that no programming knowledge is required in order to set up events.
Try to make especially interesting games by combining the large number of event types that have been provided.

Through RPG Maker MZ, we have bolstered the event function.
We will reveal more details in the coming days. Get ready to be wowed!

An easy rewrite would make this far easier for a potential customer to understand and get excited about:

Event Editor
You can use RPG Maker's flexible Event Editor to create cutscenes, populate towns with NPCs, choreograph player movement, add special audiovisual effects, design quests or minigames, and so much more! Absolutely no programming knowledge is needed - just use your creativity to combine the engine's 90+ Event Commands into content that makes your game truly unique.

RPG Maker MZ takes the Event Editor's Interface and library of Event Commands to the next level. More detail about the upgrades to the Event Editor coming soon!

Obviously that last paragraph might need to be changed based on what categories of upgrades are actually being made, but you can see how much more compelling the features sound when given the localization love that they deserve. ;)

Yeah, even a bit more information would've been great. A lot of people are annoyed at only getting a name, a banner, a few screenshots, and a really vague feature list. I am glad Touchfuzzy at least told us a bit more (the extra system tab, and the 4 layer mapping), though.

But the MV already have 4 layers:
Floor + Floor objects + Miscs x 2...

Agreed. I feel as a consumer this week's announcement wasted my time as it was just a teaser to a teaser, and it has dimmed my interest in next weeks too. If next weeks is as uninformative I may check out until it's out honestly, I got other things to do than read 32+ pages to get any little info that is there and not on the main page. And I have a feeling there are others who feel the same way out there (and it looks like there are from what I'm seeing on other sites). You only get a couple chances to announce it before everyone loses interest.

That's the joke :rswt Also every game engine out there has this, it's not something to brag about.
Oh...
I see.

Ooooh, ok, now i'm a little wowed.
From what it looks like we get MV mapping, this:

And XP Mapping, this:

And we can switch between them.
Ie we can do maps like we do in MV or do them like we do in XP.

But... I was ready to be wowed...

I like the look of the RTP, it's more classic. I might be in the minority there though, because it does look like an actual step back in the graphics department.

Is it me or are steam reviews getting more and more useless? I'm finding a lot of games now the reviews are like great plot well developed characters...and the truth is far from that.

Or the 'plot' is the AO patch.

Or both.
Rare 2nd Status Post: I do everything the most complicated way possible at first. I was just experimenting with fading in a picture by using the Show Picture command with a tiny Wait and changing the Opacity. When it finally looked right, I realized I could use a Loop & script to condense everything down to just a couple lines in the Event instead of hundreds of lines. DOH! But hey, I learned something new.
