Welp, I'm glad there's no too much change from MV (Aside from RTP I guess).
People have been used by how the current tool works, I guess don't change something that not broken.
More improvement and QoL always welcome.
And more variations RTP (Fantasy,Oriental,etc) like MV Trinity one because that will be a WOW for me.

What's always been missing from RPG Maker products:

1)Action RPG system without external scripts/plugins
2)More animation frames without scripts/external plugins
3)AI Party members for Action Battle System without external scripts and plugins

Hopefully MZ will have at least one of the above features.

What about MV plugins? I hope they will be compatible with the new engine.
I'm worried because Yanfly, Moghunter, Victor Saints and many other scripters have retired! :(
It would break a lot of things regardless as they won't be ported over at best you'd get Moghunter but even than ..it's not the same without Yanfly.

for people worying on the more pluging Yanfly funded a 'association' I guess? for adding more plugins and also porting all of his plugin to the MZ. so we shouldn't be worrying and let the poor fluff taking his rest he did enough for all of us.

Similar the first letters of each default hero's name spells something different for each maker (VX: RUBYLOVE, ACE: ENTERBRAIN, MV: HTML)

Calling it now.

Acronym for the default heroes will be 'HYPE'.

Oh well, I'll have to wait for a computer upgrade to consider it at all.

it actually is rather mindboggling to me that the resolution is firmly planted at 4:3, though, in 2020. Neither mobiles nor desktops, nor even possible consoles the engine may be able to export, use that resolution.

I mean it's really not hard to change the screen resolution at all, and it never has been since XP. It's just weird. And kind of a shame because it means the default UI will be designed with 4:3 in mind (again...) and won't look quite as nice in 16:9.

Actually NO ONE mentionned the futur OST for MZ I peticuliary liked MV soundtracks I really wonder how the battle ost will be in MZ

of course...we all know the 1000 hours we spent on MV was TOTALLY not just for listen the mv ost :3c

Good morning everyone.

Guys most of the changes aren't visible in those screenshots.

And yeah, I'd love to just tell you every single thing that is in the menus that is different, but there is a marketing plan that is designed to slow release all the info. (I'm not the biggest fan of that style of marketing, but I also understand why it is used, but this isn't a conversation about marketing, so let's move on).

I will talk about the two things that are visibly different in the pictures though:

1. You are correct about layer control. That menu let's you leave it on auto (like MV) or manually switch to the layer you want.
2. The event list. When you are in eventing mode, the tile palette is replaced by a list of all the events on the map. Makes it a whole lot easier to find and edit the right one.

Also, an added bonus bit of information: Just because you don't think something is in because the "screenshots" show something, doesn't mean that it isn't in. There is at least one thing I saw mentioned that someone was sure didn't exist, but actually does as a database option.
C'mon guys are we just going to ignore this? This has me pretty excited. Let's speculate...what are the things that everyone knew for sure wouldn't be (but will be apparently) in and would make sense in a database...hmmm...I did say Tactics option and maybe there's a tick box for it like MV had a SV Battle tick option (I know how ridiculous that sounds but I would buy it instantly.)

I might comb through the thread again to see what else it (or they) could possibly be. Would LOVE "Un-chibify character" option...

What y'all think?

It requires 4 times the hard drive space of MV, obviously each of the assets are is four times the size.

We know tiles are still 48x48, so instead of making the tiles bigger, obviously they're upgrading to 32 bits per color channel, for hyperrealistic lighting.

It's probably
  1. Too big for tile-based movement
  2. Since it's detailed, it's harder to make a resource for it
I do prefer 32px, but using 48px is something I can deal with.
+ using resorcues from VX Ace or XP is a pain, cuz you need too upscale it 1.5x, not 2x. I drew/bought a lot tiles for myself in VX ace time and they just not always look good in 1.5x.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
