Hi!

I'd like to introduce you to my game, "A swift's life". It was created during a competition in the German RPG-Maker-Forum. Meanwhile I translated the game completely into English.

Title Banner klein.png

swift 1.png

This is what you can expect:

RPG, short game, survival

Playtime: approx. 20-40 minutes

Control: mouse, keyboard, controller

Platform: PC, Windows

Language: English, German

You are a common swift that has been injured by a falcon on its wing after an attack and therefore can no longer fly. Now you are forced to explore the city you normally fly over from below and have to watch out for all kinds of dangers.

There are no fights.

You must always be careful not to starve, die of thirst, or be killed by enemies.

There are 3 different levels of difficulty and in addition the "custom" mode, in which you can adjust the individual difficulties themselves.

Latest Version: 1.4, 02.10.2021
Download here, 260 MB

If you encounter any bugs or if you know a better translation for something, then please let me know!

Please note that the development of this game is finished. I will not release any updates (except bugfixes).

Hey, I played your game! I thought a lot about it was really cool. I liked the survival aspect, and I liked the nice white highlights on items that had food, it blended in nicely with the map and didn't look out of place.

I also liked the 'last 20 messages' feature, that was cool!

Unfortunately, I couldn't finish this game because I found it very boring. I tried to stick with it, and played up until you have to go back the dog outside of the pet store to help Benni.

When he told me I had to go get help from the mouse in the field, I turned it off.
Unfortunately it kind of felt like one big fetch quest to me, and also I found the font a bit hard to read at times.

However I do still think this was fun for the time that I did play it, which was bout 20 minutes.
Good job!

Thank you very much for your feedback!

I'm happy that you like some parts of my game.

I know that not every game can be perfect for every player, but I will keep in mind what you said for my next projects. This is my first MV game (I started with another game for Ace, so this is my second game altogether), so the only thing I can do is to improve myself. So every kind of feedback is really helpful for me!

I haven't finished yet, but I am enjoying the game so far! I like how places with food are highlighted, so it makes it easier to find, and know when it is void of anymore food. It's done in a way that doesn't look jarring, either. I do think sometimes the food meter seems to dwindle a bit too fast at times, though I also notice it seems to dwindle faster when you aren't as highly hydrated, so I dunno if that may be linked?
Currently, the translation seems to be done really well. So far, I only saw one word in which was incorrect, even though I know what you mean. One dialogue it says enemies will "persecute" you, when I am sure you mean "pursue" you, lol. But overall, the translation is not bad!

No, they are not linked. The only thing linked is the life meter - it depletes if hunger or thirst is empty, and it depletes faster if both are empty.
If you think the food dwindles too far (or too slow ), you can change the difficulty (this can be done in the middle of the game, but I would recommend to change it at the start of a new game instead).

Currently, the translation seems to be done really well. So far, I only saw one word in which was incorrect, even though I know what you mean. One dialogue it says enemies will "persecute" you, when I am sure you mean "pursue" you, lol. But overall, the translation is not bad!

Of course I will change that.

Mini Update 1.05-EN

It's not much - I actually wanted to collect - but since nothing else has come in yet and I don't want to put off the update forever, here's the new version.

I had considered changing the font to a more readable one, but decided against it due to the amount of work involved (every single text box would have to be checked and possibly adapted). Future projects will (hopefully) get a better font from the beginning.

Changelog

- Translation improved.
- Added links to the english forum.

Startpost has been edited.

"Common Swift Update" new version 1.4

I have made a few more improvements. On the one hand, certain things I didn't like myself, on the other hand, some things were addressed in the livestream.

What's new?

I didn't like that Bianca looks more like a pigeon than a swift. Therefore I have made small adjustments. The wings have become a bit longer in most views and the tail feathers are smaller and not so fanned out. Also, Bianca now has the red eyes in all versions.

Small preview:

1.png

Since Bianca has other poses too (drinking and stretching wings as well as the different colors), this task clearly took the longest.

I have adjusted the map and given the bridge both railings, shadows and a sloping path. So now it should be really clear that this is a bridge and you can't walk down the side of it.

3.png

But there were also small adjustments in the gameplay. For example, it was not planned that you could sprint in the minigame. In addition, Rudi called a wrong bone-money conversion rate depending on the chosen difficulty level. Since the livestream mentioned the criticism that the game was too easy on "hard" because you could complete the mini-game over and over again, this has now been removed. Of course, you can still complete it multiple times on the other two difficulty levels.

The warning "You're starving/dying of thirst! Find something to eat/drink quickly or you will die!" was found to be annoying. It can now be disabled in the options.

Complete overview in short:

(Graphics) Edited Bianca and the other swifts slightly so that they look more like swifts.
(Graphic) Edited the map in the intro so that the woman can no longer walk on the lantern.
(Graphic) Added railings to the bridge to make the height difference clearer.
(Graphic) In the same process, the path was put down at an angle to make the height difference even clearer.

(Gameplay) Made the sloping path passable.
(Gameplay) Disabled sprinting in the minigame. Wasn't intended that you can sprint here.
(Gameplay) Adjusted Rudi's text to tell the correct conversion of bones depending on difficulty.
(Gameplay) On hard difficulty, the minigame is now only playable the first time. It is not repeatable.
(Gameplay) The warning when you are about to starve/die of thirst can be disabled in the options.

(Internal) Swapped the old logo for the new one.
(Internal) Removed the link to the old website and changed it to the new address.
(Internal) Added links to the licenses of freesound.

I just thought it would be fun if rpg maker games had a CD and a real case with a cover to put it in the shelf.
So here it is:

I just miss handling the box of a physical non-patchable game disk or cartridges.
You just needed to keep it and you were almost certain the game was well tested before 90+ patches XD

Yeah, as if these games never had bugs :guffaw:
I remember "Sunny Town" in the old Pokemon games - bug or feature? :guffaw:

I know you've already created art with it, and you may already have gotten this feedback over the years you've been developing and decided it's not important.

But that font you're using has really weird "W"s.

Like, honestly, looking at the title screen I don't think I would ever have guessed the word was "swift" - it looks way more like a lower case "N" with a curl after it than it does like any "W" I've ever seen.

And it looks like you use that font in the game also, which could be why standardplayer commented the font was occasionally hard to read.

Yeah I know and you are totally right :frown:

I wanted a font that looked old. I admit it wasn't the best one I chose.

I know you've already created art with it, and you may already have gotten this feedback over the years you've been developing and decided it's not important.
You're right, I've gotten the feedback before. However, I decided against changing it back then because it was too much work for me to check every single text box to see if the text with the new font fits in the box or not. I've since realized that was stupid, though. It's been on my to do list for a while and I'll definitely release a new version with a better font.
But thanks anyway for pointing it out to me

Because The Fury from Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of my favorite bosses of all time, I felt the need to make a somewhat similar boss for my own game. taking cues from both the Fury and another awesome astronaut boss, Captain Vladimir from No More Heroes 2.
RE4make almost had me with their demo until I got to the dog stuck in a bear trap and realized that he was dead and could no longer be saved. Just not the kind of reimagining I'm interested in.
