This is not rmvx, so it's not fair to compare it, and there is no harm in trying to help people.
Considering that 90% of the people that help people in the IRC were in the rmvx.net irc channels, I would say it is very fair to compare them.
Segregating the support channel from the social channel just causes the support channel to be near dead and ignored, because 99% of the time, no one is asking any questions. And the more dead it is, the less likely anyone will actually be checking it. I've seen it happen, and other people from other RM communities have shared similar experiences with me.
There is some plans for a possible form of live support, but a separate irc channel is more than likely not the path we would take.
And as it is, you CAN get help in the IRC right now. Go in and ask Jet a scripting question. Or ask Frost a question about something. Or well, ANYONE in there for the most part can answer most questions. Usually, for something simple, I link a tutorial though, because there is an expectation, and honestly not an unfair one, that people try and learn from the wonderful tutorials that people took the time to write to get the basics down.
IRC help is best for medium to complex tasks.
