OK, sorry if this sounds nooby, I haven't had much experience using Ace yet.

I wanted to edit one of the default sprites, but I can't seem to find where the files are stored. They show up in Ace, but when I open the project's folder, they aren't there. If it makes a difference, I use the Steam version.

You have to find where the program is installed. Generally it looks something like

C:/program files/steam/steamapps/common/RPGVXACE/rtp

Inside that folder you'll find all the rtp (in addition, anything you add in there will be in all new projects you create from there on out).

Please forget about that link as soon as possible - you should NEVER edit the original RTP files, because that will only cause problems...What you should do for RTP edits is going to your project's resource manager, select the RTP file you want to edit and then EXPORT that file with the resource manager, edit it and re-import it again.

That would allow you to edit anything without loosing the RTP-Integrity...

I can't believe I didn't think of exporting the image like that >_< Anyway, I wasn't actually going to edit the RTP itself, when I edit stuff I always make a copy and edit that instead, so if anything goes wrong the original is still there.

You still don't want to save a copy in the same folder. Here's what's going to happen ...

Scenario 1:

You copy an RTP file into the same folder, make changes to it.

Use it in your game, with the new name.

Compress your game without RTP to keep its size down.

Send it to friends.

Friends can't play game because, although they've installed the RTP, you've ADDED TO the RTP and didn't give them the extra files.

Scenario 2:

You copy an RTP file into the same folder, make changes to it.

Use it in your game, with the new name.

Compress your game WITH RTP, even though it's going to give you a bigger file size, because you've added to the RTP.

Send it to friends.

Friends play game.

You make a new game, do the same thing.

Compress your game WITH RTP, it's going to be even BIGGER than before, because now it's got the ORIGINAL RTP, the new files you created for THIS game, AND the files you created for the LAST game but aren't using.

Every game gets bigger and bigger because you've said, each time "this image, that I'm only using in THIS game, is going to go into the RTP, which is used by ALL games".

The idea is to leave the RTP as-is, and if you want to copy or change anything, use the Resource Manager to put it into the folder for that specific project. Then you compress WITHOUT the RTP if you want to keep the file size down, and your custom sprites will still be included.

I'm sorry, I'm not very good at explaining things. What I meant is that I save the copy somewhere like my pictures, then after editing it import the new image with the resource manager. I know that changing anything in the RTPis a bad idea.

haha - yeah, I've learned that it's not a good idea to assume that people know that, so thought it best to mention it ;)

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
