Is it possible to add a pointer on the direction where the character is moving/facing (whether its 8D or 4D)

I'm using an 8D direction plugin, and would want to add a cursor/pointer where the character is facing/moving.

Similar to this image.

yes, it is possible - anything is possible if you place enough work and knowledge into it as the engine is completely open.

For this there are two different ways to handle this, depending on what you actually want.

the easiest way would be to use an image program to edit the arrow into the leader sprite. However that requires that your 8D plugin allows for 8D sprites and ignores cases where the actor goes into a different direction than facing (ladder-flag)

The better way would probably to use a plugin for a HUD-type display.
I don't know of any such plugin that exists, but you can request it - it's interesting and general-use enough that you have a good chance to even get it for free.
However in that case you need to decide whether the arrow should point to the cursor or a target point, whether it should be fixed in 8D or in 360° and a few other details.

I can try and put an image event that runs on parallel, and uses the x and y of the actor as the variables, but that dont cover the 8D directions/360 as well as where the character is facing..

Editing the sprite will most likely not work, because the graphic cant extend to the down direction.
Not sure if there is a Workaround for that or if another approach is needed.

Yes, you can create common event witch parallel process, then check the face direction of player, and depending on direction, set the image in proper position (also via variables, to set it depending on player co-ords). It can be done with eventing only :)

Uh, sorry, I forgot about 8 directions.

I managed to make it work, now to just polish it ~ :D



Its just though its using parallel event, it will slow down the game, what do you think will be a good stoppeer for it while still getting the X and Y?
