I'm having issues with adding a character to my current 1 man party whereby the added character then becomes the actor the player controls and the graphic changes to him. I don't want this to happen, I want him to just join the party and the guy I'm currently controlling stays under my control.

I don't understand why this is happening because at the very start of my game I managed to do this and it works fine. I've since removed the starting two members and replaced with guy number 3, and now trying to add guy number 4 to make a second 2 man group, could this be impacting on it somehow?

How are you adding him? Show us your event.

It shouldn't work the way you're describing.

Are you using any additional scripts, especially party changer scripts? There IS one that I'm aware of, that keeps people in certain slots, and even if actors in earlier slots are removed, it won't bump everyone along.

default behaviour for adding party members is to add them last.

ALL cases where someone had a problem with new members becoming the party leader were created by adding scripts that changed the default behaviour.

Please tell us which scripts you have added, and test by temporarely removing them which of those scripts is responsible for the change in formation.

I have a fix pictures script, a lock parallax script, Yanfly Party Members, Yanfly battle, yanfly item, Heal on level, and end phase triggers by tsukihime.

I've managed to get around the actor graphic problem by adding an event 'change player graphic' to the one I want and that seems to work.

He is being added with the following events (I also make it so that he'll take on the level of the current player)

control variable: level - set player level

control variable: level - subtract 1

change party member: predatoray (initialize)

change level: predatoray + variable level

(here is where i put change actor graphic to the original player graphic, otherwise it would change to predatoray's graphic)

Although I used this same sequence at the very start of my game and there were no issues there and I didn't have to change the players graphic either.

I've moved this thread to RGSSx Script Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

The Yanfly Party Members script is the one causing this. Check in the opening comments to see if you can turn this behaviour off. If you can't provide a link to the script (do NOT post the script here), and someone might be able to help out.

Or do a search, because I know someone else had exactly the same problem with the script, and a solution might already be in the forums here.

The link to the party script is here. http://yanflychannel.wordpress.com/rmvxa/core-scripts/party-system/

I'm having further issues with changing actor graphics. Changing player graphic worked for a bit, but the minute I go into battle and come out again the player graphic has changed back to the guy who I just added.

I tried putting in the script in the event where the original character becomes the new playing character 'lock_actor(003)' but it still doesn't work.

**I did a search and found that there is an error in the yanfly script whereby the lock actor doesn't work. There is a patch for it, which I did, but that still doesn't work.

My problem seems to be fixed if I get rid of the yanfly party script. But this is only a minor help, because I need it in order to have 5 members in my battle party later on. Is there an alternative script to allow this? Alternatively, I think the problem with yanfly is that the formation is set, because I'm able to change the player graphic by changing the party formation. For eg I have characters A, B, C, D and E. You start out with A, then B comes along, then A and B leave and you play as C. Then D is meant to join, but I think with Yanfly from having A and B previously those two slots in front of C are open and so D just automatically goes there instead of coming in after C.

That is intentionalwith the party script, look at the last version description: the script is intended to resort the actors on adding new members.
If you only want to increase the number of battle members, you don't need a script for this - you can change that easily in the default scripts:

Script Game_Party, lines 72 to 74

Thankyou so much! To think it was as simple as that :) Plus I've now disabled formation access from the very beginning to prevent it happening again.
