Advanced RPG game - translation problem

Hello, i'm going to see some basics in RPG Game Maker MV Trial, and after that i will probably get the full version and start my project.


I've been making game modifications before so i'm not entirely new to the game making and i would like to make a true, huge rpg game with epic world and complicated, interesting story. RPG maker should have all i need for technical matters but there is one more thing i am seriously afraid about. My english :D I played a lot of fantasy or scie-fi enligh games and i know a lot. I'm sure i can make a dialogues and story clear for everyone but even with help of all translators, i would make mistakes and it's very unprofessional.


Do you think i should risk making it anyway? Or maybe i should find someone to help me with translation polish-english or to just correct my english mistakes (Anyone interested? For glory and maybe a future profits :D)?

I'm not entirely sure that this thread really belongs here as you want very specific feedback and this part of the forum is not for individual games but looking at things more generally.


However, I will make a couple of points.


We always advise people to think very carefully about whether it is wise to try and make their dream game their first game.  You are almost certainly going to be much better off making a short simple game the first time round.  There is a huge amount to learn to gain basic competence, and there is also the skill of actually finishing a game to be learned.  You want to do a 'huge' game, one which is 'epic' and has an interesting and 'complex' story.  That is going to require a high level of technical expertise and you are much better off getting that expertise on something other than your dream game.  I very strongly recommend that you have a look at Andar's compilation of info for new users.  Spending some time on this now will save you a vast amount of time and frustration in the future.


As for your English, there are various ways of dealing with that.  What we do not encourage, however, is offering to pay people with future profits.  The reason for that is simple - there may not be any, and anyway why should the person wait - perhaps for a very long time - until the game is released to be paid for working for you?  You can try and find someone who will do this free for you, but if not, then it would be disrespectful to expect someone to do a professional job on the off chance that at some unspecified time in the future, there just might be some profits.  At the appropriate time, you can post a thread either in Recruitment (if you want the work free) or in Classified (if you are paying).  Here is not the correct part of the forum to be asking people.

Thank you for answer, i will certainly look at the link you gave me. I will, of course, spend at least the trial time to learn the most important things and i won't start any big project before i know for sure that i can do at least first big location and story fragment.


About the translate, i didn't mean any disrespect. It all depends how the game will go, if i choose rpg game maker i will be active here for sure and present at least demo version before looking for people to help. Then it is their choice, we can talk about money for sure, but if someone will be willing to help for free it will certainly be appreciated and i won't forget it if we end succesful. That's all i ment ;)


Using the topic, could you tell me how many graphics (fantasy kind) can i find in basic library of rpg maker and download free from internet? My graphic skills aren't very well and i need serious number of options for future, most importantly characters and their side views for battles.


I would also love to know for sure if i can make choices that change other quests, changes to map (like base building) and implementing the small animations (cutscenes).

All those things you list can be done.


As for resources, have a look at the MV resources forum.  MV hasn't been out all that long, so there are as yet fewer resources than, say, for VX Ace, but the number is being added to constantly.  You will see the range of tiles it comes with when you download the trial.  You will also see that it has a generator which does sprites and side view battlers which means that using the assets the generator comes with, you can create your own sprites which don't look like the premade ones.  No artistic skills required, you just click the different components you want.


Downloading off the internet, unless it is from a site linked to from here, can be risky.  There is a lot of pirated/unattributed stuff out there and we never recommend you use things which are either pirated or where you cannot be sure who made the resource and what their Terms of Service are.  If there is even the slightest possibility that your game will be commercial then do not even think of using anything unless you know exactly who made it and that it is free for commercial use.  Many resources are free for non-commercial games but require a fee if you are making a commercial one.

All that's left is to try the trial it seems. I'm still waiting for support answer tho because the zip file i download always shows the error.


Thank you for all your help, if i will like the beggining i will certainly spend many hours learning before i start any serious project. Hope you'll find time to become one of the future testers :) If you'd like of course ;)
