    Hi everyone,

I've got a new site up and running to try to help indie game developers, filmmakers, artists, and anyone who needs original royalty free production music for their projects. The cost of licensing music today is truly outrageous, so I'm trying to do what I can to help people express their ideas and visions.

    www.soundimage.org

Any feedback, suggestions, etc., are welcome.

I can do custom music, too, and love to collaborate...just give me a shout.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Very nice, I like how you've also got suggestions for where the music can be used. It's useful for near-deaf people.

Wow that's a ton of music. Are you the author of all that music?

If you don't mind me clarifying, you say it's "original royalty free production music for projects", but at the bottom of the Fantasy/Wonder page it says: "All work on this page is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License." With this picture: [IMG]

So I'm a little confused. I thought royalty free meant it could be used in both non-commercial and/or commercial projects, in this case RPG Maker games. But it seems to say non-commercial only if I understand the actual webpage correctly.

    Am I wrong?

Or may this music of yours be used in a commercial game for free?

I ask because I'm working on a game currently and it may one day be a 'commercial game' even though early versions will all be non-commercial, so I want to be safe in using only music that I can always for sure use.

Royalty free just means you don't have to pay money to be allowed to use it. It has nothing to do with if something is allowed for commercial use or not.

Royalties are paid based on a percentage of sales, so yes - calling music 'royalty free' does imply it can be used commercially.

The page is quite explicit.  It says:

So no, not free for commercial.

@Mouser - No it does not imply that. Also, royalties can actually be based on other things, like a fixed price for example. Percent of price royalties are simply the most common (I think).

Yes, I compose and perform everything on the site. Thanks for checking it out. All tracks are free for noncommercial use...and a few dollars per track for commercial use. Please feel free to contact me...my contact info is on the site. :)

Great stuff.  Went through a few of the sections: I think you and I will have to have a conversation :)

Personally, I would change the wording from 'royalty free' though to something else (commercial license available?), but maybe that's just me.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback...I really appreciate it!

Sorry if there was any confusion...I'll try to clarify:

If you will be using my music for a project that isn't for profit (like a class project) then the music is all free (you just need to credit me, as explained on my site.)

If you will be using my music for a project that is intended to make money, then you simply pay a few dollars per track to purchase the tracks you need. (You only pay once...hence no royalties.) That's why the music is royalty-free.

    I hope that helps. :)

Sorry about that. Could you please clarify what multiposting is? I'm brand new to forums and want to make sure I'm following the rules.

    Thanks.

    Got it...thanks.

One question I've been getting is how to know which pieces are new ones. On any given page, I post the newest pieces at the top. I've also started posting the "newest of the new" pieces on the homepage. Hope it's helpful. :D

    Hi everyone,

I've added a bunch of new pieces to the site and simplified the pricing of using the music:

    Free for noncommercial use

    $5/track for commercial use.

This saves everyone the step of having to contact me for a price.

Hope my music is helpful. As always, all feedback is welcome and greatly appreciated. [IMG]

    Thanks,

    Eric
