Hello, rpgmakerweb!

I am French, please excuse google translate if I do some
weird typo! :D

I come from nowhere to introduce our participation in the
current LudumDare Game Jam! <3

So...

BilouCorp & RMEx (FR) presents:

Almost Heroic, a very short game!

Play as Alex and go toe to toe with life and anybody who will
stand in your way to save your lover Arianne. Under its
classic J-RPG appearance, "Almost Heroic" denounce naively
some videogame usual but harsh behaviour.

Ludum Dare is a "Game Jam". The purpose is to spend a
weekend creating a game based on a theme suggested by the
community. Ludum Dare events take place every April, August
and December.

We decided to participate in the August 21st-24th session...
...just 1 hour before the announcement of the theme! :D

Thus, we created this unpretentious little game, together on
skype/slack/github, deep into the very hot conditions of the
game jam!

The theme of this session is "you are the monster", we
were all agreed to do a more subtle game than "control a monster".
So we put our heads together for a small simple idea based on
the clichés of the RPG, twisted into an original ending. :)

All the graphics/sound/music is original and have been done
during the jam session!

* Joke (@BilouMaster) - Graphics, Sound effect, Mapping
* Nuki / xvw (@nukiFW) - Mapping, Programing, Writing
* Zangther - Programing (Battle system)
* Neha - Musics! <3

Our team is composed of members of the development team RMEx.

The few systems that we had the time to create (menu, quest journal,
battle system, credits) have been programmed in event, with some
RME event commands... No more! :)

We hope you will have fun!

P.S. : The game is complete and everything was done in less than 72 hours. :) (thinking, writing, programming, graphics, sounds, musics) (Half, in fact, counting our chaotic organization)

We will do a more polished release later! ... if it's worth it. ^^

Thank you for giving us your review! (despite our approximate English)

Okay, that ending was Studio Gainax/OFF levels of weird. My mind went through three loops before I could understand it (and great job on doing the ending checks; I even played through twice just to see!). A bit tough to wrap around that the game was made in 3 days flat, since the work is gorgeous (I assume you guys went with a LoZ GBA idea).

There are some minor grammar errors ("dragoon" in place of "dragon" is one of the most common, unless this was intentional) and one untranslated line I could find (after "accepting" the quest to get the ring, when talking to the woman again near the entrance to the tower in town, she has an untranslated line which I assume is checking up on the status of the quest). No bugs I can find (unless a few were intentional).

Some polish may be needed, but it looks like ~90% complete as-is. A good short burst game (~20 minutes if fast, 1.2~1.5 hours if taking time).

The ending. It's perfect. That's all I want to say about it because it's totally worth the trouble (you don't know how much frustration I built up after being defeated by the last boss several times because I suck at rhythm games maybe, or maybe it's because it feels a little imprecise sometimes, and I've played my share of Beatmania :V).

I loved the graphics and music, the story was funny, it's one of these times where the personal touch makes something pretty classic (girl trapped by dragon) be different. At the start I was annoyed by all these jerks forcing me to socialize with them. But then I wanted to make my guy marry the girl because why not!

Surely was a nice experience. So, good job people!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
