RPG Maker Forums

Hey folks! This is my first RPG Maker game, and there's something I gotta put out there right now:

There is no custom art or music yet, this will change.

I have a couple of artists that are going to be working on this project with me, one will be doing the images and one will be doing the music, but they have been busy due to the season and won't be able to start doing anything until next month. However I wanted to get something together and put it out there so I can start finding problems in the story and the code now and get things moving along. I am also not sure if the artist is capable of doing sprite work, so I may be looking for help with that.

Game Synopsis (I'm usually really bad at these)

The world has been taken over by beings possessing powerful magic. Humanity now lives a second class life under their rule. You play as Vyrse, the right hand assassin of the King, as he is sent out to squash a rising rebellion. It is up to you to decide whether to side with the rebels and try to take down the oppressive regime, or crush them.

The game relies heavily on combat strategy and puzzle solving with a strong emphasis on world building and story telling. There are only a few major game choices, but each one will be explored fully.

This is also a more gear reliant game, levels are capped at 30 and several actors start at or close to the cap (a couple of the kids start much lower, but they level faster.) Skills are not attached (mostly) to level either, instead they will be found and the player will be able to decide who learns them. Mana will also be an issue, mana crystals can be found that will increase an actors maximum mana by 5 at the cost of 5 hp.

Numbers are also supposed to be relatively low, individual actor's HP won't go much past 100-200 HP. That said damage can get quite high, with guns available it shouldn't be uncommon for enemies to get one shot unless they are properly prepared. (A lot of weaker enemies come in larger groups to compensate.)

Characters

Vyrse

He fought and lost in the war as a kid. Rather than kill him, he was brought in and trained as an assassin. He has spent 30 long years working for Vahagn, killing people that stand against the regime. To quell his conscious he tries to only kill the target and does his best to ensure that everyone else gets away safely. A feat he's gotten very good at over his years.

Vahagn

A powerful being with control over time. His power manifests in a strange form, in that he can change the time of a specific region, fast forwarding it to the future or rewinding it to the past. Everything and everyone in that area will be pulled forward or backwards as well. He has used this power to entertain himself, bringing the most dangerous creatures of the past into the present, just so he can feed his enemies to the beasts.

Dunstan

Vahagn's Commander, and leader of the armed forces, Dunstan wields powerful metal magic as a weapon. He also has no love for humanity, and would like nothing more than to see the race wiped out entirely. Since Vahagn refuses to comply, Dunstan focuses his efforts on Vyrse, hoping to expose the assassin as a traitor.

Party Members on Rebel's Path

Syndil

Daughter to the Captain of the Guard, Syndil was sent to spy on Vahagn's capital and find an exploitable weakness. However, she was captured. Vyrse has the choice to save her and use her to find the Rebel Base, giving him opportunities to kill the leader without having to kill anyone else.

Heng

A young man invested in fighting for the cause, he shows promise in both sword fighting and earth magic.

Sigrund

An elderly woman with vast power over the earth. She is currently training Heng in how to wield this powerful force of nature.

Raven

The Captain of the Guard and one of the leaders of the new Rebellion. He works tirelessly to assemble troops and prepare the citizenry for war.

Silvia

Raven's wife, now working as a scout and recruiter. She is skilled in many things, and works tirelessly to fill out the ranks.

Nim

A young woman with knowledge beyond her years, she is exceptionally skilled with all things mechanical, and is studying under a powerful master of Dimensional magic.

Party Members on Regime's Path

Victoria

Picked up at a younger age than Vyrse, she has little love for humanity and is committed to Vahagn's rule.

Daisuke

Working as one of the Demon Guards for Dunstan, he befriended Vyrse early on and the two have helped each other out of several jams in the past.

Setting

It is post war, and due to Vahagn's abuse of his powers different times are constantly inter-meshing as people and cultures once separated by time are now forced to live together. As well, uncivilized areas have to worry constantly about the now dominant species of dinosaurs that Vahagn brought through time.

I have no screenshots yet because, again, the artists are busy. I'll have them up as soon as work begins.

Requests for Support

I'd like to know any plot problems, pacing issues, typos, event crashes, balance problems, or what have yous that don't touch the imagery. (Talking about map making is okay-ish, but I'm pretty sure we will be doing Parallax mapping. Although advice and tips on how that works would be appreciated)

I have a couple of scripting things I'd like to do, but am not sure how to. I now know a bit about how to use Ruby thanks to Code Academy, but I do not know which hashes contain what information in order for me to alter it.

Specifically:

-I want Crit Chance to increase with level (for Vyrse this would be by 1% per level) but it is a different rate for each party member.

-I want to add another attribute called Mastery that deals with damage done by guns and other ranged weapons.

Download

Hopefully this works, things seem to be having problems for some reason.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
