ALT+ENTER while playing XP made game does not work

So as the title says, I can't stretch the game to fullscreen using ALT+ENTER as I'm supposed to, it just doesn't work at all. I've experienced this problem while playing "To The Moon" and now with "Pokemon Uranium". It makes me believe that there is some kind of a problem between RMXP and my computer (which happens to be a laptop). I did google and search for others with the same issue but couldn't find anyone else - so what could I do to fix it?

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210U @ 1.70GHz 2.40GHz
RAM: 8GB
Operating system: Windows 8.1 Pro
Max resolution: 1366x768

There's a script for RMXP that lets you disable fullscreen mode. Assuming it's only happening with those two particular games, it's possible the developers purposely disabled it. Try some other XP games and see if fullscreen works.

That would make sense if it weren't for everyone on the internet says "just press ALT+ENTER" like it's the thing to do. Since I've not played any other XP games I can't 100% say it isn't just those two games but I'm fairly certain that you are supposed to be able to use fullscreen mode in both "Pokemon Uranium" and "To The Moon".

Try out my game to test? I didn't disable full-screen.


Edit: Just downloaded To the Moon again and I can safely say ALt+Enter does work + the game starts in fullscreen for me. It's super weird it doesn't work for you. What happens if you press Alt+Enter? Nothing at all, or does the screen go black or something?

If the devs didn't disable fullscreen, then it could be something with your graphics card settings or display adapter. Try un- then re-installing your display adapter, and make sure all your drivers are up to date.


If the problem persists, I suppose you could just change your screen resolution to 640x480 - same resolution as an RMXP game - and change it back to normal when you aren't playing.

Feels like I've tried almost everything at this point. Currently downloading new graphics drivers, although I do believe I have the latest installed it can't hurt to try.
As for changing the resolution to 640x480, that's not possible on this laptop. Like many other laptops the resolution follows a different formula and thus I can't choose any of the "normal" resolutions. Maybe that is the underlying problem but in that case most people with laptops would have the same problem and I seem to be alone with this issue.

It seems that your laptop does not allow stretching of lower resolutions. Even if the preferential resolutions are 16:9 on most laptops, some of them can accomodate other kind of resolutions like 640x480, 800x600 and so on. It seem yours cannot, that's why you cannot switch to fullscreen.


In the display parameters of your computer, check if you can allow non-16:9 resolutions.

I can't find anything anywhere that indicates me being able or (or not able) to use non-16:9 resolutions. But since this is a cheap office laptop that's even missing a real graphics card it wouldn't surprise me if what you say is true. I might be able to solve this by connecting another monitor to the laptop. I'll try that in the future when I can afford it since it's something I want to do anyway for working comfort.
