Looking good. I agree with the comments on the music though, it's way too orchestral and "epic" for a 2D RM game type of setting, even if you're going for a more dark fantasy vibe. It sort of diminishes everything else around it. I'd go with something that feels closer to "RPG Music", and which doesn't have any opera vocals (or vocals at all). Which doesn't mean that it can't still sound grand...just not that grand. Something more in this direction:

Also, as an aside, where did that black background behind the message that appears over the character's head come from, in the first video? Did you just make that yourself?

@Kaelan: Yep them orchestral tracks will be toned down a little. Speaking of Dragons Dogma, how is the actual game?

I got it back when it came out but could'nt get into it... Is it worth giving it another shot? :)

Regarding the message boxes, I just made them in photoshop.

Thanks for your comment.

little update, working on a scene where Karn is about to be executed.... lol.
It's clearly not the full scene, just trying to capture the atmosphere... I'll upload the rest of the scene soon.

Thanks.

It's really good, actually, I've had a lot of fun with it in the past couple weeks. It takes a little adjusting to and understanding the game system at first, but once you do, it's a really good game. Sort of like Dark Souls in that regard.

It's kind of a mix of Dark Souls' difficulty, combat and giant boss fights, with Skyrim's open world/sidequest based exploration. The multiplayer pawn stuff is pretty great too, and it it has what is possibly the best final boss fight I've ever played in any game. It's definitely not for everyone, but if that's your cup of tea you should totally give it a try.

Back on the topic of your game, I think that scene might look better with some more color in it. It looks a bit odd to me just black and blue. Maybe make the light white if it's at night? (or yellow if it's supposed to be a dark place during the day)

Ahh, I'm glad to see this here. Played the demo back on the old forums and loved it, forgot to look it up here until now though. Think I might have to give it another go.

@Kaelan: Cool, I'll give the game another shot, loved Demon Souls, but the story and world in DD wasn't doing it for me.

@DEADSONG: Thanks.

@AK47

Duuuuuude, just saw this and was left completely amazed. The scenes, the ambience, the sprites and the music (yes the orchestral music) are all completely epic imo.

Love the proportionality of the sprites with the scenery and the Trees! definitely worth playing the demo :3

I love it. The song conveyed a setting of unease, as if that brief moment of peace was a bit forced and it was now the calm before the storm.

@amerk: Thanks, I'm glad that feeling got across. Will compose some more stuff soon.

A scene I'm working on, Karn's past life.

The waterfall animation is not complete yet, I'll probably add some more frames.

Jeeze... this game is purdy as hell!

It's half-way between looking Tiled and looking hand drawn. Love the atmosphere too. Lots of inspiration here.

Thank you for your comments everyone. :)

Been away for a few weeks due to work, but am now working on the new custom battle system, hopefully I'll have something to show soon.

I'm trying to implement somewhat of a "realistic" melee combat system, which focuses on parrying, dodging and countering your enemy’s attacks, sort of inspired by the Assassin's Creed games.

Thanks.

Look forward to seeing the new battle system, it certainly sounds like fun. A more realistic approach would be very interesting to play through!

@Hirei: Thanks, the battle system is coming along slowly, need some more time to work on it.

Hi all, it's been a while. Very busy at work atm so will remain quite inactive for a few months.

Did do a little composing however, here is a sample of Track 2, still not finished but will be continuing it soon.

This looks..... Amazing.

Is this going to be a commercial product or freeware?

Absolutely loving those two new screenshots, AK. You're so good at conveying atmosphere in all of your maps. Looking forward to playing this when it's ready.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
