SYNOPSIS/STORY
Lumina is a goddess... Who died. Except it turns out goddesses don’t exactly die, not really. Instead she awakens to find herself trapped in a world gone mad. Objects appearing out of nowhere and vanishing just as fast. Monsters materializing ready to devour anything nearby, then simply disappearing. All ruled by a young woman named Miranda, who thinks everything is just pretend.

You are Lumina and Miranda may think you’re a figment of her imagination, but you’re not. You know you’re real! And you’re going to prove it at any cost! You’ll find a way out to the real world, and nobody is going to stop you!


Just one little problem, you’re not alone in here. Deep under the surface unfriendly eyes are watching you. Shadows plot against you. Voices whisper insane words in your head. “Give in….”, “Forget….”, “Your fault…”. More and more the words come, “What killed me?”, “How did I get here?”, “Am I real?” I mean of course you are right?


“Of course you are.”


“Wait you didn’t say that, did you? ...Never mind!”


Deep below the surface of Miranda’s adorably violent fantasy world, something is very wrong. And it becomes readily apparent that you’re not the only one in danger here, Miranda’s life is on the line too. It's her world, if she dies... What will happen to you? Seems you’ll have to save her to save yourself. Of course that’s assuming she doesn’t kill you first. You are after all imaginary... Right? She says you are, so you must be. So why should she care about you?


Imaginary or not, you’ll have to uncover the truth Miranda is hiding from you. Thankfully her memories have taken form in the world. Bring them to her, force her to face them, solve the mystery and remember tomorrow for the both of you! Or you could just lay down and forget today… The nice voices say it’s the right thing to do. Why would they lie?


“Give in…. Lie down… Forget…. Today….”


Miranda's world is a wild thing. Experience a world that randomly builds itself, and then gets bored of itself to build itself another way. It’s okay, Miranda has already lost interest in it anyway. Sometimes it’s fantastical, playful, and joyful... Sometimes it’s a world of pain, suffering and blood. Miranda doesn’t seem like the kind of girl who likes that stuff, but it’s her world so it must be her doing it. There’s nobody else here, just the two of you. Right?


“But I’m here.”


“What?! Who? ...This place must be getting to me. Focus!”


In Miranda’s world the golden rule seems to be if it’s smaller than you, you can just break it, trample over it, it’s fine.


“Look! It even gives prizes! Everybody loves prizes! That’s why there are treasure boxes everywhere! I love treasure boxes!”


“Wait…. Who said that? Miranda loves them... I don’t love them. Right?”


“Of course.”



You’re not alone. Miranda’s “friends” will keep you company. And fear not, they will find you.


“Loneliness is bad, I don’t like loneliness…”


“Wait? What am I saying? They’re monsters! I don’t want them to find me!” But no matter where you go, they appear and seek you out. But then they’re gone. Were they real? “Am I real? Why am I always running? What am I running from?”


“Get a grip Lumina! I have to control this situation. But my powers, they’re so weak now. I can only control small areas at a time. So I must run, if I can control a space before a monster touches it, it will hurt the monster. Soon it will die, and I will be safe! So I run, I seek….”


“You hurt them, they’re friends! You’re the monster”


“Wait.. what? ...Am I going crazy?”

YouTube Gameplay Videos

Features
  • No two maps are ever the same in And Remember Tomorrow, everything is randomly generated on the fly, often while you’re still in it.
  • Simulated Endless Maps… Keep running, and running. There’s no end here.
  • No set encounters, enemies will find you.
  • Unique combat, you fight by controlling an area before the mob touches it.
  • No HP bars here, only madness. The more damage you take, the more the madness will start whispering to you. Take too much damage and the madness will have you.
  • The madness also talks to the player, occasionally even being helpful. It serves as an indicator of objectives, and a character in it’s own right.
  • Map based everything. You’ll never be transported to a mystical realm of battle, the world’s already happy to shift to whatever it needs. Don’t worry, it’s got you.

In the Works
  • Art for area 4-7, perhaps a prequel area…
  • The story, I’ve got a lot of dialogue written but I need to stuff it into the game. I’m working on a specialized dialogue system.
  • More madness graphics.
  • 2.5D models for the monsters.
  • More complex behavior patterns for the monsters.
  • All the bosses. I’ve got ideas, originally I designed two, but I drastically changed the game since then. Don’t worry, it will be quite an unforgettable experience.
  • Character faces… I’ve got some ideas, but I keep updating the character models so I end up needing to update the faces. So they’re getting relegated to last.

I plan on updating My YouTube and this thread as I create more stuff. I welcome and any all criticism good or bad. Don't be afraid of hurting my feelings, I'd rather know stuff in advance before progressing too far down the wrong rabbit hole. On the same token if you like something, let me know so I know to focus on that more. Thanks in advance!

Also no demo at the moment, as you can see from the YouTube videos the game is playable... But really just incomplete. I figure I'll end up releasing the first two areas as a demo in the foreseeable future.

Just did a bunch of work updating the graphics of the entire game. Definitely a lot more go though, updating all the new hitboxes, reworking the movement system to better handle the larger objects. It's been quite the party. :LZSexcite:

Updated my swamp area, added "Comet Mode", made weird floating masks that chat numbers. o_O (Blame 3am ideas.) Also I recorded this one video on a larger potato than last time, so the quality should be better. :LZSexcite:

Ok. Please let me know if you ever need testers. This is the most unique thing I've seen made with RPG maker, for sure.
Are you taking inspiration from anything in particular, or is this just completely your imagination?

Thanks! I'll almost certainly put up an early test version here at some point in the future. It's still pretty early on though, so it will probably be a bit unless I just focus on producing the first couple areas. Ah the life of a solo dev.

As for inspiration? I mean visually I'm taking a bit of inspiration from stuff like American McGee's Alice / Alice Madness Returns or really any Alice in Wonderland (there are a lot of them). I'm basically aiming for a dark surrealism feel, the kind of stuff you'd expect if a girl/young woman's nightmares came to life and suddenly made up a whole world.

As for the story (which I need to go back and refine). Awhile back I wrote most of a book, but it was from Miranda's perspective. Then I was like, this would be cooler as a game. Except from a gameplay standpoint it's way more interesting from Lumina's perspective. So now I'm rewriting the story with her as the main character... I guess that means I took inspiration from myself in an awkward sort of way. :LZSexcite:

Was working on a map that has an identity crisis and keeps changing what it is every handful of seconds. Still early on so the assets will likely be changed. But it represents a new technology I dreamed up. Now the game generates around the player themselves. So I can generate lots of pieces of maps dynamically around the player. :LZSexcite:

@SpaceBot See I mostly just wrote the major stuff. So I'd have to go back through and write all the inbetween stuff. Also er... the book actually starts right after where this game ends. Would be one hell of a spoiler. If this turns into a series then I'll end up likely just putting the story in the next game. Don't worry though, this game will have it's own standalone conclusion.

Most of Lumina's stuff is pulled from it though, and expanded upon. She really was never intended to be the main character. Though she does make a fun main character. I enjoy writing for her. So if I do end up just producing a book, she's going to have a much larger role.

I've been hard at work on a better map generator. The new generator supports literally thousands of events, produces 200x200 maps and doesn't need regular map transfers to deal with CPU/Memory issues.

As a consequence, I have done serious work to improve the first area. Larger maps allow me to add more exploration and "wonder" to the game. So expect to see a lot more unique stuff just show up randomly, as you're wandering the map.

Also I'm still working on additional graphics, but I should have an updated video in a few days showcasing the new generator in action.

Thanks! Honestly I may put in stamina. Enemies so far have a hard time being a credible threat when the player can just run away most of the time. So reducing the player's ability to just dash off is probably a good call. But also it gives the player something else to collect. Some early test builds had it, but then I switched to focusing on graphics and haven't gone back.

I also have experimented with different types of paths, so walking actually produced a much more damaging path versus the running version. One build had the running path do no damage at all. Another made the walking path slowly heal the player.

I've also got a power up style of collectable that allows the player to simply ram an object to damage it. Essentially turning the player into a giant projectile.

Lots of ideas, I'm at the early stages of combat so any ideas people have about it are quite welcome! :LZSexcite:

I cant ell much from a video alone, demo and play it how it works can bring more idea's and
feedback to see if it fits. we can guess what's already in there or what to improve.

I suggest for now, add the idea's you have now, untill the demo is out, and see if you can improve
the idea's and feedback with your own, that fits nicely when possible :)

Backup tip: If you don't want to back up your whole project every day, at least back up everything *except* your Image and Audio folders, which you can do weekly/as needed/etc.
