Hey there everyone. I am having some difficulty with animations and changing character sprite. So my character needs to change its character sprite at the same time as I show an animation. But for a very brief second you see some flickering and I used to be able to do this in old rpg makers no problem without this flickering. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the engine itself? I even have a preloader loading all the resources for me ahead of time to and that doesn't make a difference. I show an animation and then change the sprite back right away. I have even tried not waiting in the animation and waiting manually with the wait command and then changing it sooner but that still does not help. Like I said I have successfully done this in rpg maker vx and ace with no flicker. This is the first time where eventing has stumped me. Here's a video with the flickering.

and here's a sample of the eventing: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yjkm4yx81fyfhov/Screenshot 2018-04-17 21.14.07.png?dl=0

Bump. I still am trying to understand why this is happening. I have done many games in rpg maker 2003 and rpg maker vx ace without this issue, yet in MV this seems to always happen no matter what I do :( I have changed the event in so many different ways but the sprite always flickers with the animation. I remember I did this with a zelda game I made in rm2003 where I would make the sprite transparent and then I would show animation then change sprite back from being transparent and you wouldn't see no flickering at all. Is there some way to avoid this, please anybody with knowledge as to why this may be happening is so much appreciated.

Flickering is usually either lag or timing problems.
Unfortunately we would need the full event to decidde which one, but from the screenshot it seems as if you have no waits in the parallel process, and that is always bad. Start with a wait (3) and then test if you need more or less waits.

Thanks for your response Andar. However, I have also tried this in a plain press enter on event and it still shows the flickering. And I have tried many different combinations of waits because I to thought it was a timing issue. Here is an example of the plain press key event which still always has the same results of flickering.

and I have tried everything. I have even tried manually waiting instead of letting the animation wait.

*And I have mentioned that I have successfully done this same exact thing in rpg maker vx ace and 2003 with no issues. I have been using rpg maker since rm 2000 and I am aware of not having waits in the parallels being bad. This is why I did a really simple event thats push key but still has the same effects unfortunately :(

*Edit I have played around with this so much that I can see where the issue is. If the animation is played over top the actor graphic it flickers, if I show the animation not on the actor at all but right beside I can see clearly that there is no fllickering of the sprite. This is very weird cause it does not happen in ace.

Show us screenshots of how you defined the animation then.

Okay in the database right? Here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3wnvfhgxnlvjmgk/Screenshot 2018-06-17 15.38.34.png?dl=0

It's basically just a simple 6 frames of him shooting that is perfectly lined up with the actor when the animation is played on player.

And I have tried removing ALL plugins and doing it regularly with 3 frame sprite and with the same results so it is not a plugin issue. :)

*Also, remember that when the animation is shown NOT overlapping the actor it doesn't have this flicker effect but only when it covers the actor. I have tried Transparency, setting image to nothing, ect every single option eventing gives me.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
