Announcing the winners of the 1st Animation Competition!

Here are the identities of our entrants, the name of their works, and my own comments about each of their wonderful submissions:

Entry 1 - @AceOfAces_Mod - "Fire and Ice"
Comment: the theme of the animation is reminiscent of a certain classic dual-tech in Chrono Trigger. The nuance in the off-beat rhythm and timing of the slashes really brought out the personality and uniqueness of this animation.

Entry 2 - @Melosx - "Contest"

Comment: a very creative use of two different elements harmonized by a great color scheme. The moderate length also makes this a versatile animation that can be interpreted and adapted in many ways.

Entry 3 - @boomy - "Bolt"

Comment: while simple in appearance, a lot of thought and effort can be seen looking at the placement and movement arrangement of each individual cell.

Entry 4 - @Princess Bananabelle - "Cross Slash"

Comment: an interesting way of using Laser1 to achieve the sustained slash effect and is a great example of how adjusting the angle of cells can create a refreshing take even with the same resource.

Entry 5 - @Llareian - "Flower Blast"

Comment: a truly imaginative presentation with excellent execution. The petals at the very end is an exceptional touch that rounded out and gave closure to the sequence.
Entry 6 - @Trihan - "Meteor Portal"
Comment: a showcase of meticulous craftsmanship and understanding of the features of the engine's animation tool. The rhythm and build-up towards the final half-ring of meteors is exceptional as well.

Entry 7 - @BCj - "Grasp of the Netherworld"

Comment: a great demonstration of taking two similar types of elements and adding them together to create an effect with a greater sum than each of the individual parts.
From the popular vote bracket, our winners goes to:

1st Place - "Meteor Portal" - Trihan
2nd Place - "Flower Blast" - Llareian
3rd Place - "Grasp of the Netherworld" - BCj

After great deliberation, the winners picked by the judge panel are:

1st Place - "Meteor Portal" - Trihan
2nd Place - "Contest" - Melosx
3rd Place - "Flower Blast" - Llareian

Winners will be receiving PMs from me this weekend for details on how to claim their prizes!

Thanks again for everyone's participation!

Best of luck to all participants!

They all look great, though. Hard decision.

Vote cast, best of luck to everyone who entered!

"Votes will be tallied in 7 days, and the top 3 entries to gather the highest numbers of votes will be deemed winners. In addition to the popular vote, a separate panel review will pick 3 favorites for the same prizes as well."

Does that mean there's only going to be one poor sod who wins nothing? XD

@Trihan (ahem) It could be 4 poor sods who win nothing if the judges agree with the popular vote.

That's true. I guess I just got confused by the wording "for the same prizes as well" as it implied that it would be 3 different people being picked. So does that mean entrants might end up winning more than one prize or getting the same prize twice?

His topic said:

Applies to both the Popular Vote and the Panel Vote brackets, for a total of up to 6 different winners. If the same entry is picked by both Popular and Staff Votes, the higher-tiered prize of the two will be awarded to the recipient.

So, 6 winners.

@BCj @Trihan

I see there's some confusion here. I think the wording of what I wrote here made it more confusing than it should be (it was 2 AM... ) . I apologize. :kaodes:

The original rules states:

"Applies to both the Popular Vote and the Panel Vote brackets, for a total of up to 6 different winners. If the same entry is picked by both Popular and Staff Votes, the higher-tiered prize of the two will be awarded to the recipient."

Meaning that:
1. There can be less than 6 different winners, in the case of overlaps, like Kes suggested.
2. For the overlapped winner(s) in question, the winner(s) would receive the higher of the two prize tiers they qualified for.

So for example, if the Popular Vote chose Entry #1, #2, #3 as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, respectively, and the Panel chooses Entry #2, #1, #4 as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, respectively, then the result would be:

Entrant #1 = 1st Place Prizes (from Popular vote)
Entrant #2 = 1st Place Prizes (from Panel vote)
Entrant #3 = 3rd Place Prizes (from Popular vote)
Entrant #4 = 3rd Place Prizes (from Panel vote)

Does that clear up the confusion? Let me know if there are any other questions.

Ooo I went offline for too long and forgot to submit my animation. The submissions look awesome though! Love the range in simplicity up to the mega-strike kind of animation. Good luck, all! :kaohi: And thanks to Hadecynn for hosting! I know I learned a thing or two I hadn't realized while looking in to this competition~

I love them all...
They are all so prety and imaginative. It was a hard choice... It´s like when someone asks us if we want apple pie, or ice cream(and we are like: "but whyyyyyy can´t we have both???")
Anyway, these competitions are lots of fun for everyone.:kiss::kiss:

I'm impressed with these. Aside from just being all-around creative uses of the assets, just watching these is like a montage of interesting animation tricks. Delaying the action for dramatic effect, holding a frame in place, mirroring the same animation at different angles... lots of useful ideas in there. :kaojoy:

Good job guys, all the animations looked pretty nice!

I don't want to influence other voters, so please vote before reading my pick below:

I really liked Animations #5 and #6 (with an honorable mention to the very cool #2). After watching them both three times they still felt neck-and-neck, so I went with the shorter, more versatile animation (#5) as a tiebreaker for my vote. Congrats on a job well done!

I'm in the process of migrating to a new computer. I'll have it up by the end of this week (so I'll still fall within the deadline stipulated in the contest rules :kaopride:)

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
