In celebration of the 1-year anniversary of Animations Archive last month, I've worked with our excellent forum staff to present to you an opportunity to unleash your creativity and win exciting prizes!

Step 1.
By using any animation sprite sheet within:
- The default RTP
-
The Animations Archive
Create an original animation composition through RPG Maker's animation tool in the database.
Step 2.
Submit the Animation.json or VXAce equivalent file that contains the animation to me via PM (
@hadecynn) prior to the submission deadline (Mar 14th, 23:59 PST).
Step 3.
At the end of the submission period, the animation data file and a video clip of the animation that I will capture straight from the game engine will be posted with identifying entry numbers. The voting phase will commence. All registered forum members will be able to participate in the Popular Vote voting process. Each user can cast one vote for their favorite entry.
Step 4.
The three most favored entries will be deemed as winners and receive prizes described below.
Step 5.
In addition to the Popular Vote, there will also be a Panel Vote judged by myself and other artists/staff. This will be a separate bracket from the Popular Vote.

Submission Period: Mar 1st – Mar 14th
Voting/Judging Period: Mar 14th - Mar 21st
Results Announcement: End of March

Applies to both the Popular Vote and the Panel Vote brackets, for a total of up to 6 different winners. If the same entry is picked by both Popular and Staff Votes, the higher-tiered prize of the two will be awarded to the recipient.

Q: Can I edit/create my own animation sprite sheets?
A: No. The aim of the contest is to challenge participants to use existing resources to make something new within the engine.
Q: Why are we limited to only the RTP and Animations Archive sprite sheets?
A: To be fair and to ensure that everyone has equal opportunity, these two sets were chosen because they are free resources available to everyone.
Q: Can we chain multiple animations together?
A: Since this is the first competition, let's keep it simple; you are only allowed one animation entry in the engine's database (up to two sprite sheets).
Q: Is there a limit on the number of frames for the animation?
A: No. The length of the animation can be as long or as short as you see fit, with the hard cap of 200 frames due to engine limitations.
Q: Are sounds effects or screen effects considered?
A: Only the visual presentation will be judged (the video I record will not have sound). Therefore, sound effects are not necessary, whereas screen effects are more than welcome.
Q: Any tips or advice?
A: I can't speak for the rest of the Panel, but I'm personally interested in seeing creative and clever combinations and uses of existing material. If you are unfamiliar with how the animation editor works, make sure to go over the documentation and help file; you can do a surprising number of things even with existing animation sprite sheets.
Feel free to ask any other questions you might have. I will add them to the list. Since the first time we are doing this kind of competition, it will have some kinks that needs to be worked out.
Have fun and let your imagination run wild! Good luck to everyone!
Cheers,
hadecynn
