OK, where exactly are you trying to use hue mathematics?
It might be that I'm blind, but I just checked and have found no place in MV animations where the hue could be used or set.

found it, and don't bother - that setting has absolutely nothing to do with the animation, if you refer to the "target" settings.
the target setting allows you to select any enemy as a placeholder target so that you can better place the animation, but the target is always a placeholder and neither saved nor used in any part of the game. It is always replaced with the true target enemy from the troop that the current fight is for.
as a result the selection window used is the same as the graphic selection for an enemy, but because the animation itself has no hue (it is only on the enemy picture), that part of the setting is completely ignored and never saved.
if you want to change the hue for the enemy, you need to go to the enemy tab and change it there, for the specific enemy using that graphic.
