The contest page says late July.  It's already July 29 here and I haven't heard anything about when they will release the winners' names.  I'm curious for an update because I don't think they expected 700 entries and they extended the peoples' choice voting period, so I could understand if they had to extend the judging period a bit, I'd just like to know.

I think the they might announce the winners in early August. I guess we'll see. But someone might give us a light here.

I don't see how they could possibly have judged all the games by now, but surely they would have changed the details on the contest page if it was going to be late? They seem fairly pro-active, so I'm still holding my breath. :D

At least we can know who will win people's choice. Two days left so far but it's quite obvious.

Considering there are 700+ entries and only 744 hours in the month of July (24 * 31 = 744), I would think if they are to play each game for an hour (as promised) then they will need until end of August/early September myself. So that's my guess unless they shorten the time they play each game or not every judge plays every game.

A couple of things~

  • About 1/3rd of the entries made it through screening.  Only those that have made it through screening will be judged.
  • While an hour is the goal, the judges have the right to end their gameplay at anytime if they feel they have enough to make a valid decision (or play more if they are engaged enough to continue)
With that said, I would suggest to hold tight until clarification has been made before conclusions are jumped to :)

This.

The rules clearly stated the contest would be judged with a screening process first.

Where does it state that 1/3rd of entries made it through screening? I think I heard someone predicting that, but I don't recall seeing it from an official source.

Whoops, there I go jumping to my own conclusions as well!

Deckiller mentioned about 150 RPGs made the cut.  I do not know about non rpgs.  So it's up in the air.

I vaguely  remember a mod making a post stating something about 150 RPG's made it through the initial screening and 130 NonRPG's.

So thats only taking up a total of 280 hours. :)

Edit:
Maybe it was Deckiller :D

Only 280 games out of 700 made it through the first screening?  Ouch.  Wish we could find out who's on that list.

I'm pretty sure some judges were specifically chosen to judge the rpg category with others designated for the non-rpg category also.  So that also reduces the amount of games each individual judge has to play.

Realistically, they have said the community choice will be revealed on the 31st. So one would assume that they will release info on the other winners then along with the community choice award. no?

Good point.  I just honestly suspected that they would need extra time.  If they don't that's great.  If they do, I can understand.  I'd just like to know.

Maybe they do. But I think that there would have been ample staff to deal with the 280 games that made it through the initial screening.

I am sure that they will either release the info of all the winners at the same time, or, they will release the contest winner as stated and other info on when the other results will be announced. OR (and i only include it to cover all possibilities) they will release info postponing all prize announcements :p

Either way, only a few days till we know :)

I thought it was 1/3 that got knocked OUT by screening?

But nevermind.

We'll know on the 31st I think!

It would be very cool, both for the game creators themselves and for the community looking for good games to play, to see a list of the Top 100 or so games in each category, listed with its score along each category.

As stated by Deckiller in a "Disqus" comment, the score of your game and its screening status will be available on an ask-only basis.

You can ask about your game to the staff through their e-mail:

info@rpgmakerweb.com

But perhaps they'll only tell you after the results are in.

Don't be surprised -- tons of the entries were fake, based on licensed properties, jokes, etc. If your game is "real" you really don't need to worry, I think.

Strangely I've never even seen 1 entry on the random games list that would've been removed during screening. All legit. I wonder if the screening included quality as well. In that case you CAN remove at least half.

Ho, ho, ho and mwah, ha, ha. It appears that I will be getting a leg up on the inclusion of Krampus in the 2023 Game Jam. We arrived in Orlando, FL yesterday and my wife found a Krampus Festival for us to attend tonight! Maybe I will be going home with a Krampus!
I was planning on getting new character management feature into Character Generator, but my recent illness has delayed this somewhat. I will try and get it done today (which would be a miracle) but if not, I will have to complete the whole lot by Tuesday. This should hopefully be fine and all other feature updates should not have their target dates affected.

I've been watching videos about the videogame streamer Open Hand charity scandal, and the rabbit hole keeps getting deeper. At first it was just a lot of donated money being grossly neglected for years, and now there's a lot of money unaccounted for, which could turn this into a legitimate IRS crackdown.
