I figured as much, because the way I read it is EACH judge has to play the game (else, how do they pick a winner? Only fair way is all judges have to play the game first), and even with the weedouts (which, we don't honestly know how many there are), there was just not enough hours in the month for them to do this in one month. I think they didn't expect as many entries as they got honestly.

At least they are taking their time to judge properly.

Alright, until late-August then.

Regards.

Ahh that's a shame, but we'll see the results someday. Good luck to everyone that participated.

Ah, shame! Good for them for taking more time to judge, though I would've liked to received this announcement a bit earlier. xD Delaying the results by a month doesn't sound like a last-minute decision, haha.

@Dekita: You received a random giveaway? Wow, I was under the impression these didn't exist! Did you get e-mailed about it or? What'd it say? Can you say what you got? o_o

Anyway I think I'm going to stop visiting this website so much now, as it's been a bit distracting from my work. Now that I know we'll get the results at the end of AUGUST I'll just focus on development instead. That way if Unraveled wins something I can release the extended version shortly after. :)

Yea, they definitely could have released the information that winners would not be announced for another month A LOT sooner imo. I mean, if it has to be put back for so long, surely they would have known this at least a week even 2 weeks ago...

I would assume that it is ok to tell you what I got  ::  A steam key for any RPGMaker DLC. I chose PVGames monster legacy pack. (not that I will ever use it, at least no time soon, cause I prefer the normal ace graphics over the high fantasy stuff.  I was informed of my winning via email.
They werent able to tell me what  I had done to earn the prize, but I have a strong suspicion of what it was for :) (dont think i should lsay that, just in case its right and I get into trouble lol)

A couple of things~

  • About 1/3rd of the entries made it through screening.  Only those that have made it through screening will be judged.
  • While an hour is the goal, the judges have the right to end their gameplay at anytime if they feel they have enough to make a valid decision (or play more if they are engaged enough to continue)
With that said, I would suggest to hold tight until clarification has been made before conclusions are jumped to :)
Can you offer any confirmation that judges will sometimes go over the hour mark? Many of my playtesters clocked in at about an hour and ten minutes, and it'd be extremely comforting to believe that judges would be willing to stick around for the extra ten minutes to see the endgame.

One judge definitely mentioned that he personally would if he was enjoying a game, I think it was a couple of months ago in the comments on the contest site though so good luck finding it!

I'll take your word for it, thanks. It's a bit silly how much crucial information regarding this competition is buried in old forum posts and newsletters.

It could be the 2 week extension is for getting everything else done, and perhaps some of the judges are finished, some are not.

I agree with most of the judge's points though --- have a short intro which sets the scene, use correct English grammar and spelling (for RPGs this is crucial since the text is the majority of the game), and have actual gameplay.

I don't think his "teach the user to play the game" is that important for RPGs, since the RPG Maker ones have fairly standardized controls.  Although it is important to teach the player if there are any features like crafting, harvesting or other unique RPG features.

Are they just going to let the contest die off instead of ever posting the results? Perhaps their expected profits from the contest weren't high enough compared to the prizes?

Two weeks tomorrow i think.

Also - dont think that they made any profit from the contest, they made profit from the humble deal before it.

And publicity from the contest concerning RPG Maker. The Humble Bundle sold incredibly well.

Ok, 2 weeks tomorrow then. That means they basically have 24-30 hours (timezones!) from now to announce the results.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the e-mail say that they'll TRY to post the results within 2 weeks?

The contest was ran by RPGM an humble though (i think).

But yea, they made insane profit levels from the humble deal.

I dont really think its the prize money thats the issue. Most likely some problem with the website they chose to hold the contest on. If you notice, that still hasnt been updated in weeks, which leads me to think that they physically cannot gain access to it.

But yea, it should be within the next 31 hours the results are announced, really though, I wouldnt bet on it. :(
I would be more willing to bet that we will not find out the results till next year :D

Next year?! Haha! I think they need to do a status update explaining the delay if they don't manage a resolution in 30 hours. That they cannot gain access to the website sounds plausible, but it makes me wonder how/why that would happen. They could just copy the files /coding onto a new website and say it is solely a result site?
