Without breaking NDA, Wii U fully supports HTML5, and engines which output as such. Obviously nobody has anything written yet, but who plans on doing so?
I'm asking around the Nintendo Dev forums, and it's looking like it won't be that big of a deal- so many different engines are being used with the same JS-HTML5

process already.

Is anybody else a Wii U developer, or have any thoughts on the matter?

Nintendo didn't accept me as a developer because... I live in Brazil.

Not sure what the issue was because there are some Wii U developers here, but Nintendo said they couldn't let me develop for Wii U because of that, so I'm not interested anymore.

But you probably can make games for Wii U on MV. Can you try running that demo on Wii U's browser?

The only browsers that didn't run that demo for me were Internet Explorer and some other Windows Phone small time browsers.

Man, I'm so sorry to hear that. :(

I'm sure it'll run in the browser- but I'm more concerned with an actual Wii U eshop release. It's definitely possible!

It does sound possible. It would be a nice new feature if we could upload to Wii U. We would be releasing games to such a wide audience.

I'm so excited, it's ridiculous. I've been working in Unity, just trying to basically emulate an HD RPG Maker and release games outside of windows.

Now we get the real thing. :)

I am a bit new to all of this stuff, so out of curiosity, is this true for digital distribution on other console platforms, such as PS4, Xbox One, PS Vita, 3DS, etc? Or is this something that only the Wii U supports right now for eShop releases?

As far as I know, only Wii U. There have been discussions about 3DS which I'm going to look back at now. As for XB1, PS4, and Vita I have no clue? I'm using Construct 2(which is HTML5) for a game, and am pretty sure that only Wii U has an official plugin- it seems from what other developers have said that other HTML5 middleware is only being used for it as well.

If you find out more about it, I'd love to know too. I'm on a waiting list for XB1, and haven't even applied with Sony yet, as their requirements are a little different.

Wish I could've been more help, my friend!

So are they only accepting developers from North America and Japan?

I believe Brazil is a complicated issue. They pulled out of the market in general awhile back due to the high tariffs on electronics. I suppose that extends to development? Phillipines... I don't know, honestly. There are plenty of developers in EU and South America otherwise, though.

Well, it's HTML 5, so as long as you (or somebody else) wrote JS extensions for Wii U functionality, it'll already work by way of NWF. There honestly is probably enough sample code provided to get it running easily... though I guess the engine details will be more or less a mystery for a few weeks yet. Regardless, easy or hard, it is supported. I want to say there are about a dozen different HTML 5 middleware engines being used right now, and most aren't "officially" supported. The community, with a little help from the Big N, is good at knocking out plugins.
That's about all I am allowed to say.

You have to be a licensed Nintendo developer of course, but can it work? Yes.

The next few months are gonna be a ride. :D

That happened before they left the market, though.

Well, actually, they weren't really here since the SNES days, they just had a small partner.

I plan to port to Wii U at some time after release. But I can't really say I know much about the process other than having looked at some of the devkit stuff a long time ago.

Not something that I know anything about, but I'd definitely look to explore that market with some help from someone in the know should the time come.

Maybe this is controversial, but....
I legit think that GOTY should have gone to AC6. I wasn't personally a fan, but for what it was, it was near perfect on launch, and the only updates they had to do were slight balancing issues. I never ran into a single bug, and everything was smooth.
For what it was, I think it was flawless, and I would have loved it, I just couldn't deal with the hud.
I have changed my mind. I'm trying to do to much at once with this project annd need to buckle down. Sorry all! One day I'll fix it!
If you guys wanna make a game dev happier this Christmas, please buy the DLC of my game, Phil Alone on Steam. My bills are killing me in the end of the year and I wanna develop a new board game now...
