I was asking the same very question when I started RMMV a few weeks ago. It really depends what you intend to do as a game, but like many before me, I bought the whole Yanfly bundle. It's money well spent and will save you a lot of time down the road.

It really depends on the type or game and mechanics you want to be in your game but for mechanics, the best would have to be the Yanfly Library. Yanfly has over 200 plugins with many great features. For visual aspects, I highly recommend Moghunter's plugins. For flashy titles screens to dynamic weather, for free plugins, they're really good

.... my advice is don't use any plugin.
It makes you dependant and unable to improve.
Functionality comes first.
ideal comes later when you are ready.

I will agree with @Kuro DCupu to some extent. I don't necessarily think plugins prevent you from learning the engine and improving your skills, but it's definitely a good idea to really work with the engine on its own and figure out how things work as intended before you start adding a bunch of plugins that may drastically change the way the engine performs.

If you're asking this question, I believe you haven't explored much yet either explore the engine, explore the available plugin, or explore your game design.

In that case, why not try as many as a possible plugin you find on the internet and mash them up together and see if that makes your computer explode that work? For example, try the entire Yanfly's library (the free one) and try to make a game based around those functionalities. It could be fun.

You could use Yami Skip Title (comes with MV) to simply skip the title screen and use a map. ;)

Ones i always recommend is SRD Super Tools and HUD maker, it makes rearranging menus and creating a fancy battle hud super easy.

Don't use any plugins until you need to do something that you can't do without plugins.

Adding plugins just because other people like them and recommend them, when you don't actually have a need for them, can cause you problems. Think about your game and your needs - don't just look for shiny things.

well... just my opinion
add every plugin out there that you interest and try it
learning something new is not hurt
you will know many new thing out of boundary
don't limit your self by what engine can do
it makes you stuck with it and make same generic rpg maker game...

Yanfly's plugins are amazing! But I think you should reactively download them, rather than proactively download them. In other words, start creating your game first, and only when you come across something that the regular engine can't do should you install a plugin to solve the problem.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
