Hey all!

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post about this, but it was the most logical one.

So yesterday I came up with an idea that I thought was pretty cool at the time. That's why I would like to post it here and see what you have to say about it.

One of the main characters in my game is very close to the nature and the astro aspect of my world (She's closest to what we would call a scientist). Since she's very geeky in this area I thought it would be cool to add this small idea to her 'dreamy side' that she often engulfs in during the game's progress.

So the idea that struck me was to use 'terra' or the world that we live in as a reference to a planet that she has read about in a book about the legends of Aspicio (The world the character lives in).

Including it as a place that she dreams about going to, and something that she once in a while talks about.

Since the world is functioning very differently in my game, I wanted to use our own world as a fantasy world in her eyes.

A world where you need water to make things grow, where your vital system doesn't determine who you are and several other things that will build upon her wish to live in such a 'dream world'.

If I can build upon this concept in a good way, I thought that it could end up pretty nice. I'm not sure if I have played a game with this being included in some way. More than that I think it could be a neat thing to have her 'dream world' relate to our world because the player will feel that, and think about earth. Something they can draw a resemblance to, and relate to.

I also think that it can be a cool resemblance to us human's will to explore and learn more about the cosmos above us, but from another world's perspective.

I'm not sure if this could break the immersion of my game, but I thought the idea sounded pretty sweet when it came to me.

I'm aware that I might have been a bit confusing in my post, and maybe havn't adressed the idea in the best way. But since It's still just  a early concept, I hope you can understand somewhat what I want to show.

Any thoughts about this?

RMMV
I think it is a pretty sweet Idea. I have never played a game that has that type of twist. It will definitely be awesome to see how it all unfolds. Good luck to ya Dark.

That's a pretty cool idea! I've actually just started watching Star Trek The Next Generation for the first time(talk about retro lol) and the idea of visiting other worlds and having beings from those worlds critique our ways as humans is quite interesting. Going back to your idea, you have an alien being(the player, I'd imagine) that among being a sort of scientist, fantasizes about our kind of world....which relates to how we in real life fantasize about other worlds, other possibilities. It's a unique take :) Is it sort of nudging the player to remember that our own world is kind of nice too?

Speaking of Star Trek TNG, I watched the episode called "Hide and Q" where an alien "being" known as Q, who essentially has god like powers over time & space, pretty much admitted that it's kind feared humans due to their unique drive/hunger to change and become better after Captain Picard quoting Hamlet said:

"What a piece of work is man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty! In form and moving, how express and admirable! In action, how like an angel! In apprehension, how like a god!"

Q and those like him feared that humans themselves would not only eventually become like them but could possible overtake them as well. The reason I even bring any of this up is to sort of build on the idea of an alien perspective of humans. Why are we so interesting? What is so different that makes us admirable and this scientist to fantasize about us? These are the questions you should shoot to answer. Just my two cents ;)

Am not sure am the right person about this, but it been done before in online games.  The first pop up is second life. If I understand you right you like your hero to choose different world to be in?

Your main platform is heaven and other world is under the heaven, right?

I know about 7 different wold, like: dream world you can only access through dream (also called for Jacob ladder (fader Jacob), also Out of body), Color (if your wold is in different color it will not be in the main world, like the real world), sound (sound is different from color to be apart from the main world), space (is in the main world but you can only access it by technology), that all I can think off for now, sry.

Summary;

Highest world: Heaven

under the highest world: dream, color, sound, that all I can think off for now, sry.

down to the lowest world: physical

But am not sure this is what you are looking for.

I like this idea a lot! Although, I'd hesitate to call our world Terra for one reason. It's already been done in Final Fantasy.

Maybe you could look up names for Earth in different languages, if you want an exotic-sounding name.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I follow you at all. What I meant with my post was that my character in question (named Viola) is a academic Scholar that has graduated in Naturalistic knowledge (and Astro-knowledge), even though It's not what she's fully capable of but has as a strong interest for. In a rare and geeky book she read (that's what the people of my world of Aspicio would have called it) she found a legend about a planet in another dimension that she will bring up to the main character of my game at times. This world should resemble our own world (Terra) but It's not that particular world she's talking about. In her eyes It's a magic world, a place that she would dream to visit. A world so different, and fascinating to her that It's something she can't comprehend. But for the player she will talk about a world that's very similar to Earth, and in the players eyes It's the world of Aspicio that's full of magic and is very different from our world.

With this I wanted to have a connection with our reality in the game, and have that character showing her impressions and thoughts about a world that we as humans know exists, but is as alien for her as another planet full of life would be for us.

I like this idea a lot! Although, I'd hesitate to call our world Terra for one reason. It's already been done in Final Fantasy.

Yes, of course. I would probably call it something totally different, or even not naming it at all. The main part is that she have read it in a 'urban legends' book (or whatever the urban legends are called for the world of my game) where she has read about this far-away world (that resembles Earth in almost ever way). And she will then share this to the main character, and tell him how fascinated she is with this 'dream world' that she read about in a book long ago.

water to make things grow? I remember Battle Realms... "We need more water", "we need more rice"
Haha! I meant that more as a vague example (since in my game's world you don't use water to make things grow. It's part of your vital-system and you will need to be able to control a vital-point inside yourself (that will stimulate the naturalistic aura, in other words being able to control forces of nature). In us human's eyes that would be alien and totally silly, but in her eyes our worlds way of making things grow is what is marvelous etc. That's what I wanted to express with this whole thing. The other main part is that she's no idea if this world exists or not, It's just a fascinating and magical word that she read about in a book. Sort of like the world we humans experience when we read a fantasy or a fictional book.

Yes, this is excactly what I wanted to express in my main post (But it sort of felt like I didn't put the right words). Yeah, or more like nudging the player to remember how marvelous our world really is. We play fantasy games because of the magic and stuff like that, but when you think about it our world is very fascinating on It's own (almost magical to an extent). And let's not forget about space. But mostly I wanted her to have this connected to her dreamy side, and mirroring the dream world she's talking about as the world that every living human knows about: Earth.

In her world, Earth is that fantasy world that we humans search for when we want a good fantasy.

This idea merely came to me since I have always been fascinated about space, and the planets. And since my game is touching a bit on a psychological aspect I thought it would be cool to add something that would touch upon all the questions that we humans ask (At least It's something I think about from time to time, and have thought about several times), things like how did everything came to be?, how come that everything works the way the do? How come that we as humans which are full of meat, bone and cells can function the way we do... etc, etc.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
