So, I download the trial for MV, because for 80$ I wanted to know what I was buying. And, well, I was let down. Hard.

Now, let me begin this by saying I went into this completely intent on buying this software and came out of it ...truely not interested in the content they "added" to the maker. I'll do my best to remain objective about this, and explain my reasoning.

PROS

  1.  The new character generator is fantastic, it looks great and has some new features that make it much more useful.
  2. They kept the mapping system the way it was and just improved how it looked at tile sets, allowing for nicer maps without making users learn a new method.
  3. Eventing is virtually untouched, which makes things easier for someone like me who primarily does eventing.
  4. The larger variety of tile sets is greatly appreciated, and they genuinely look good.
  5. You can now make games for mobile platforms, which is great!
CONS

  1. The sheer lack of any effort put into the database is unacceptable. They put the least amount of effort they could into this, it is a clone of Ace's database...minus all the entries. Even classes where never setup properly.
  2. While they added a lot of new tiles, they also kept a lot of older ones. Some where redrawn and look much better from it, some however don't look like they really were, instead they look like they just copied them from the last Maker.
  3. The Eventing System is untouched. They made no changes at all to it, and even left one command broken. It literally does nothing.
  4. Technically speaking, MV is the equivalent of Ace with scripts. Like, 5 scripts. The code itself wasn't even properly redone, just converted to Java. So it, most likely, wasn't really optimized to run on Java.
  5. The new menus/windows aren't designed well for smaller screens. The icons are large and even the toolbar is unusually larger. The program cannot be snapped to either side of the screen without still 75% of the screen. But, I'll blame this on the size of my laptop screen.
In conclusion, I am disappointed in the quality of the content they have provided. And I just wanted to get this off my chest so I can stop thinking about it. @_@ It really bothered me.

Remember; this is just my opinion, if you plan on (or already have) bought this product then great! :D You're supporting a fantastic company.

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
