Not the empty database that was the previous issue, but database entries that are just plain wrong?

I was using the stand alone version (which also had the issue I'm about to write about here) and got tired of the poor handling of updates. So activated my Steam version, and downloaded it. Upon successful download, I started it up, created a new project and checked the database. It seems that some of the entries are completely wonky. For example, look in Skills. Skill 0009 Fire. Animation played is Blind, and the Description says Blinds all Enemies. Effects, 50% chance to add Blind. Whaaaa...? Skill 0010 Spark. Animation played is Fog, adds Silence as an effect. Heal plays Fog and adds a state of Poison.

Anyone else have this issue? I asked in the resource forum here, but was told it wasn't that for them, which is weird since this again is a fresh and completely new install.

Here's a screen shot demonstrating what I mean: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pwgj5tjddwetxah/WrongSpells.png?dl=0

Nope. Everything seems fine for both versions for me.

Seems like something went wrong with your data?

In my full database Skill 9 is Dark Cloud, which blinds all and Skill 10 is Forget Cloud. (They have the descriptions you wrote above.)

In the partial database however Skill 9 is Fire and Skill 10 Spark. I don't know how, but seems they got mixed up with yours.

Try and manually install (=copy&paste) the full database for the Steam version. (Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > common > RPG Maker MV > NewData > data)

Hopefully that solves the problem.

I did this, and I get the exact same thing.  This just makes no sense whatsoever...

Hmm, okay. How about just copying it into your actual project? (That's what I did as I didn't feel the need for a full database all the time.)

Edit: Just to be sure, I would download the database again.

So I opened the Skills.json in Notepad++, the skill 9 is correct.  Dark Cloud.  However, open RPG Maker VX (Steam version), create a new game, and the resulting database does not have Dark Cloud as Skill 0009, it's labeled as Fire but with Dark Cloud's parameters.  Nobody else has this issue at all?  There is nothing I'm doing oddly or out of the ordinary.  1 copy of RPG Maker in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RPG Maker MV\ with the appropriate JSON files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RPG Maker MV\NewData\data

All I do is delete any former projects, so nothing is pre-open in RPG Maker, click File->New and create a new project.  And right off the bat, the database is not the same as what I have in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RPG Maker MV\NewData\data\skills.json.

Windows 10, if that makes any difference...

Have Steam check the file integrity of your installation to see if something had been damaged (right-click on the program in steam, properties etc...)

I think this may be a Steam issue, rather than an MV issue. There is something about the wayit does its cloud saving which leads to similar problems. You might want to do a search in the Ace threads fornthe solutions. AAlternatively hope that Andar comes by, as he knows all about it. However, you might be quicker to search than to wait.

I've done that as well.  As well as re-install from scratch. As I said, if I open the Skills.json in the steam folders, the file is correct.  It's not until after I create a new project that the resulting Skills.json file is incorrect.

Actually I had this issue with thenon-Steam version as well, which is one of the reasons I switched to the Steam version.

One other thing, if I copy the JSON files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RPG Maker MV\NewData\data into my projects folder, then open the project, it's correct.  So there's something wrong with MV, when it create a new project, and is supposed to copy the file.  I wonder what else it's messing up...  Could it be a "Run As Administrator" thing (which I'm not doing, and shouldn't need to.  But it is consistent each and every time, and the only fix is to manually copy the files after creating a new project.

To which language is your RM set? English or something different?

English.

In the debug.log shows:

[1027/162621:WARNING:resource_bundle.cc(286)] locale_file_path.empty()

[1027/162621:WARNING:resource_bundle.cc(286)] locale_file_path.empty()

I deleted this file, then created a new project, which re-created this file with these entries.

Run as Administrator doesn't change anything.

[EDIT]

As if it's not weird enough, running the "Verify Integrity of Application Cache", and now after creating a new project, now the database only has 10 skills, and 0009 is Fire with the appropriate parameters... But now I have an imcomplete DB.

Is your windows also in english? That warning may be because it cannot read a path with non-latin characters in it.

An my question originally was because it looks as if the replacement from a translation file is mixed up somehow, which would point into the same direction (if MV didn't detect your windows language correctly)

Nope, English all the way through...

In case you missed it from my earlier message (because after I edited, your message was already there, so you may not have seen it):

Nope, the update fixed almost everything for me.  Animations are even usable since the 5 second lag is gone.

I give up... Steam claims when doing a verify, these updated database files aren't legitimate. It updates them, thus removing them and re-installing the original almost empty ones.  So I guess I'll just have to live with an almost empty database until it is officially part of the Steam Update.  Which I hope won't be long...  Because honestly, I'm not making game commercially, I'm doing it just for fun, and story telling and having to create all these entries sux. All this pre-built database stuff is one of the primary reasons I use RPG Maker.

This happened to me what you need to do is create a new game and the engine will add the new data, but if you have a current project then you need to add that data to your game project but warning it will overwrite certain data already made by you in the game.
