A developer in my area recently started a monthly meet-up for indie developers. Yesterday was it's second meeting. Of course, the only developers who showed up was him and my team (minus one XD).

His plan to foster a community where we share ideas and get feedback, showcase our games, and network sounds like a good idea. And sometimes, a little encouragement can go a long way. I've been helping him with ideas such as game jams or whatever. Yet we need more actual developers.

SO.

There must be other people interested in this sort of thing. Perhaps if we shared our general location, some people could meet up and start doing the same thing?

Forgive me if this isn't allowed.

I'll start.

Anyone based in the Philippines should totally join IGDA Manila. We've got hobbyists, indie startups and industry veterans all together in this online community where we share knowledge as well as local industry news and events. I've been a member for maybe five years now? Barring a few exceptions, everyone's been great. I've learned a lot and actually managed a short career in game dev thanks to the friends I've made here.

We hold a few events every now and then like playtesting sessions and seminars. We had a seminar (and then a few beers) at Google HQ BGC just last week:

Speaking of events, the ESGS is coming up this month! If you want to showcase your game at this year's ESGS at the SMX Convention Center, you can probably still sign up for a space in the IGDA booth. Maybe. I know they were taking signups a few weeks back. I could probably ask if it's still open.

@StrawberrySmiles Have you tried looking up if there's an IGDA chapter in your area? I honestly don't know how active chapters are in every region but maybe there's one close to you that you can join!

I think the threads ok myself, just don't post any actual email addresses on this thread as spammers will grab them if you do that.

So far no one has, just making a suggestion before the thread takes off (and I put it in the blue moderator text so it stands out). Carry on.

I'd be all for some sort of small group if I could find local devs to just meet with and trade expertise and advice and such, or maybe even collaborate with each other but am to much of a hobbyist/amateur at the moment to join a paid organization with aspirations of becoming a union like @sabao references; though if there was one closer to me than Huntsville perhaps I'd reconsider that if they let me check it out sans commitment.

Of course it don't matter much since my truck was totaled months ago so it's not like I can go meet anyone anyway, unless you wanna meet me in what could easily pass for the set of deliverance for a creepy wooded hike/bike ride to discuss game making, which I doubt anyone would. Though I'm saving up for some sort of motorized transport so maybe in the months to come if there is anyone nearby enough to want to give it a try I live in northern Alabama between Birmingham and Gadsden. Not to terribly far away from the mighty palm by car standards, though a lack of opportunity economically has me considering moving out of state entirely once I do have transportation anyway.

I would love to meet up with any Louisiana game devs. I know we have a small burgeoning community somewhere around here, but their presence isn't very well-advertised because aside from the annual NOLA Gaming Fest, I can't find any meetings of game devs in the area.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
