(Forgot to post yesterday ^^°)

I've been doing pretty much this last week.

-I've drawn and added all facesets into one of my side projects. (took me 4 days while doing nothing else), but forgot to adjust the dialogue, so I'm still working on that. Also realized how ****ty my writing in that one is. >.<

-Fleshed out the story of another side project a bit.

-Started working on my main project again. (A bit of eventing and trying to understand one of the scripts a little better)

I hope I still get stuff done next week, since university is starting next monday TT.TT

@Dekita: That makes two of us. I have to spend this month finishing a book that is 'almost' done, but it has been 'almost' done for 10 months or so now. Ugh. What was that saying, the last 10% takes up 90% of the time?
Uglk, I hope not @_@

The first 10% took me 3 months alone @_@

It depends. Usually this happens when you're a perfectionist. You expect yourself to make things flawless and perfect, and as a result end up putting it off and procrastinating and waiting till it's good enough. Best thing to do is to have a realistic goal that you can achieve and go for that. Then, as you gain more experience at what you do, you can raise that bar. The more you put it off, the less likely it will ever see the light of day.

@Matseb2611: Agreed. I put it off and that is why its been 10 months now on that last 10%. On the plus side I can tackle it with a fresh perspective and not rose colored glasses. Their have already been a few of the "What in the WORLD was I thinking?" moments.

Fri 4.10.15- Added the events that allow you to transfer to the next map from any part of the sides of the previous. Also, added vegetation and other things to more sparse areas of the Swamp of Disappointment and Coastal Route maps.

I guess that's one way to tell that it's deadly. Thinking I want new tiles for the poisonous swamp, though. Tile E still has a few spaces.

Some old temple, perhaps? BTW, it is about 2PM in these screens. The Swamp is just that dreadful and disappointing. Thinking I might play with the tints a bit more, because it mostly just looks like night.

A skull and crossbones map!  Love it!  Lower map, one of your pillars (on the right) has lost its top.  Yes, I think the tint does need adjusting.  Until I read 2PM, I assumed it was night.

I spent far too long messing around with my sweeping maid.  She only appears for a minute or so, this is not a rational use of my time.  I need to be more disciplined about what I use my time on.  Finishing the structural mapping of the first cave.  There is the entrance and 3 exits leading to other maps.  This one has no lava, only the slightest pink tinge to the floor tiles near the top.  Difficult to know how to dress up a cave like this.  Most of the usual clutter is no good - you do not have mushrooms growing in hot caves, for example, equally nothing wooden.  Got a few animal skeletons lounging around looking untidy, the odd rock, a few stalagmites, but that's about it really.  I do have nicely irregular walls, though, so that helps to make up for it.

Too tired to comment on everyone's posts, so I'll just generically say "good work, everyone!"

Yesterday I spent all day studying and didn't get any progress done on my project, and this morning was my exam (totally aced it :p ). After my exam I treated myself to a nice home-cooked meal and old Disney movie (turns out The Lion King still makes me bawl after at least 15 years), and also didn't get any work done. Might get some stuff done tonight if I feel like it.

At least now that school's over, I'll be able to get a ton of stuff done over the month :)

@Imascribble: Congrats on being done with school! Enjoy the time of mass RM production

@ksjp17: Sweeping maid? Once you get it finished I think you will get many, many requests for it. Good luck with the hot cave.

@Videowizard: It is pretty dark for 2 pm, but if it is an area that light does not get to easily it is possible. Or maybe your swamp is in Fairbanks, Alaska and it is winter :p . Only suggestion I have is your vegetation is too orderly (it is going in a straight line), looks unnatural. Maybe spread it out some?

@Marquise: I'm a math teacher, I bring numbers of doom! Ok, I could not resist it.

4.11 Update: I had to work on a RL obligation today, so I spent today playing an RM game for inspiration and brainstorming ideas for lore and side quests when I had the free time. Nothing to show at the moment though, as it is all brainstorming.

@imascribble

congrats on your exam.  And a good idea to just put your feet up and relax after it.

@bgillisp

My intention is to put it on my Edits thread when I'm satisfied with it.  With some recolours.  Even GrandmaDeb thinks that there aren't any others out there, so it would be nice to give something to the forum members.

Sat 4.11.15- Posted two screenshots and fixed up some things that were pointed out, and also started on the Lakeland Highlands-West map. Only two more maps, and the "back" way to the Lakeside Cliffs will be open.

If only it was just THAT for this poor dyslexic. It is just that any mathematicians must have a VERY good sense of humor or a definite sense or art to appreciate how I solve mathematical problems.... I'm afraid it eludes the taxmen; I'm about the only person I know to be able to solve a Physic problem on the chalkboard by turning it like a fully drawn locomotive exterior!

*somewhere into the cybermental what-could-be worst Marquisean imagery*

"What?! It solves the problem there is no problem anymore on the chalkboard just a nifty locomotive... and I didn't even erased the problem; just worked around it! What you don't understand... Pfft!!! AT LEAST MY PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS ARE VERY CREATIVES!!! You have no vision folllllks... 0.O Don't trow me off the claaaaAAAASSSS!"

*Back into cyberspace*

This past week I have reworked some of my indoor maps, and I think I am almost done with the ones I have. I have been working on my outdoor maps and the battle system the most. I'm mainly trying to design my main character's fighting styles so they flow well in battle. So far I only have three characters that need in-depth customizing, so it's not too bad. One is almost done, and another is in development. Well, I had finished the second one, but encountered too many problems while testing, so had to restart all over. Also started working on enemies and troops, spent hours researching for resources, and did some frankenspriting.

Here's a very short trail to a friend's house video. For parts of the game, the player plays as this little boy. He can't fight much, so I'm making most of his parts puzzle and brainteaser oriented.

Oh I just saw this thread. Guess I have missed the past ones. Well here is what I have been up to.

April Goals

PZEA

Convert all the base tilesets to from XP to Ace and have the mappers start the last week of the month. Continue recruiting more team members and finish up script build version 8X.

PZE XP

Begin recruiting for a new XP team as I don't want to see the Xp project fade out. I believe I gave the old team more than enough time to contact or resurface.

>>Battle Dungeons!!<<

If anyone has checked my first post in the topic they may have noticed some things added to it.

Post new Screenshots

make a new Video

Finalize Kingdom Class System

>>PROJECTSHIN<<

The Time Has Come..

(can't say yet) Sorry

ShinSword

Work on the 42 Stages more.

Other projects

Do more work on them

@ShinGamix Welcome to progress thread. I feel like it's been awhile since I've seen you around on the forum. Sounds like you got quite a list going so don't forget to update us!

@wynautastronaut Oh gosh, did I spell your name right? I really thought the map in your video was beautiful and the moving critters really helped bring that life to it. I like the music choice, too.

@VideoWizard I don't really need to repeat everyone's comment on the tint but I do agree. However, I did think that maybe some of the flat grass textures could be used to break up the tall grass, guide the eye around a little more, and add a little more color contrast as well.

Since my project is quite exaggerated and inspired by several cartoons; I decided to adopt a more cartoon-y art style for it, not that my drawings were ever overly concerned with realism in the first place. But an experiment none the less.

I forgot to save after I took this screen shot, so experiment over. I don't even feel sorry for myself. It was a true, "Did I really just do that?" moment. Next time I execute this I want to do something a little different with the shading but overall I accomplished something I was pretty happy with. I still go between liking and disliking my lines but with my Tourette's syndrome there is usually a place where my patience is bought out by it.

This wasn't intended to be in game anyway, as I left out several of her costume details, so it's really no big deal that I lost my progress. I'll be working on her in game art now.

I also started writing out the main story arc so it's like, "Oh my God, it's really happening!"

@wynautastronaut

I was wondering where you'd got to.  Nice to see you back, and that video is delightful.  I like the whole atmosphere and the way the music goes so well with it.

@ShinGamix

I think I'm a bit intimidated by your awesome list of goals.  I have enough trouble keeping track of one thing, let alone that number.  Good luck.

@MsLittlefish

I like it.  The lines under the eyes make her look a bit world weary, like maybe she's seen too much, but the expression says that she's going to keep going.

@VideoWizard

Do you think you'll be finished with all that this week?

My update.

For those who wanted the walking sweeping maid, you can now find her on my thread here.  I added sweeping versions of the women from People6 to give a bit more variety.

Done a couple of maps.  Still trying out tints and such like, but it's coming along.  Here is a screenshot of our intrepid heroes trying to work out how to get past a splodge of lava.  Really, I am a bit disappointed in them.  They have been with me long enough to know that if it's me that's put the road block there, then there is no point wasting time trying to get past it.  I'm too thorough.

Here's the map that they're on.  I've put it in a spoiler as it's a bit big.  Still some found items to go in, then enemy sprites and such like.  However, it gives a general idea of where I'm going with this.  I'm quite pleased with my non-blocky auto tiles.

@ksjp17 Well, I actually toned down the facial expression since I was just playing around. And since it's just a head shot, what is not depicted is the microphone pole going through her torso. See, she's actually a living dead pop star.~

So the final drawing is probably going to be full on down turned, mushy dead face. : 3

As for your map I have to agree that I love the rounded edges. To me the tint looks pretty good and really plays up the contrast between the stone and the lava, which is something that I really look for in maps because sometimes things get too blend-y.

@Marquise: Well, there is room for some creativity in problems. Just don't take it as far as the one time someone game me a beautiful comic as an answer to a math question.

@rondchild: Is there a project page for that game? Seem to recall hearing that name somewhere but can't recall where.

@ShinGamix: How on earth do you keep track of all of those projects? I have two (my main and my side dabble in project that has no plot and is just a dungeon crawler), and can barely keep those two straight!

@Ms Littlefish: I know that feeling. Hope the writing of the main arc goes well.

@ksjp17: I saw those were posted. I'll have to grab them next time I need a sweeping maid.

4.12 Update: All I did today was update the project page with some new screenshots and videos. Thought I'd at least comment on all the other progress so I don't have 20+ to do the next day I have substantial progress to report.
