@Reapergurl I tried using Tzukihime's script for post battle common events (this is for Ace) and couldn't get it to work properly, so I gave up that idea too.
@hiddenone Yes, the armorer likes tending his plants. It's his way of relaxing after beating hell out of pieces of metal. Although simple, those outfits you've made are very effective.
@mogwai A piece of advice from the far side of pain - if someone is revising something they want you to work on, refuse to touch it until they have finished all of their revisions. Otherwise wasted time and a lot of frustration beckon.
@feckyeslife You're right, each of those goals is very dense, so that is a lot to get through in just 3 weeks. I do like the way you described your existing skills, I had a big grin at that.
@bgillisp Maybe after this experiment you might have something to suggest in that thread (General Resources, iiirc) where haycedan was asking for suggestions for things to include in animations tutorials?
    @Celianna Looking good.
@Chiara So you can now include having a break day among the goals you set yourself which you succeeded in completing. Hahah, I had exactly the same thing with my extra forced actions to complete the skills I wanted. It's totally messed up what had been a neat arrangement.

    My update:
Rearranged the bottom left corner of the town map, eliminating most of the empty space. I had been going to use it for the armorer's store of wood, but I've now put it over by the forge, which makes more sense. A few other small tweaks to buildings, and evented some of the NPC dialogues, some of which are highly dependent on the order you do things in. Therefore lots of conditionals etc.

@Kes Difference between us, I'm using Yanfly's Victory Aftermath script which has that as a built in feature.
@Celianna I really like how your custom clothing shop looks.

    Update v.02

Gave up on the idea of making a drained lake effect, switching gears and likely changing a map dynamic.

Taking a break from RM because it and my RL work load not to mention my hateful sister Ann are ALL trying to drive me over a cliff (not literally).

Game submission on RMN denied (expected); not stressed over it.

Currently am working with SMBX 2.0 beta and Platform Game Editor Engine to make a Megaman game that had been stuck in my head for over a decade. This is going well, despite a hiccup here and there (still can't quite figure out the moving airship thing).

I have at least ideas for all 5 skills I need (hooray!) all that remains is to implement them.
Got some work done on the map this morning.

@Kes Yeah I've been kind of sitting on my brother's book and doing other things that are more rewarding. Now I feel bad and I don't want to work on those things, because he just called me demanding to send him another draft and I haven't been working on it. This book really is not good and he has the delusion it's going to make him rich, like charge the premium $7 dollars for it App Store. I really have no confidence in this book/game. I can't can't even get my blog to work in all browsers other than Chrome and Firefox.

I guess I am a bit too late to answer to everyone right now but thanks for all new progress views and encouragements.

    Progress;
Done the pledge drive and I kinda had to fight rain and wind with my Prototype. I might upload pictures later. I had a feeling that morning that the generosity wasn't the biggest and I did just a bit over half of last year. And got few more adventures too... (Who tries to date a robot??? It is my second proposal of the week! o_O) but, I'll keep those stories for other times. I might have a few more fixes to do to the current 2nd skin, fingers are still troubles. (I really am drained now! Nice that DC and MrCat are such clever live teddy bears. I still have a few shopping to do to them. They are my relaxation specialists.)

    Progress Report #3:

    Immortal Sins:
-Added a PDF reader to Northbridge. This is used to read the readme file (which is saved in pdf format). Since the readme has bookmarks (and some PDF Reading software doesn't support them), adding this in is pretty useful. Here's a picture of it in action:
-Messing around with the Desktop Bridge. Since the Creators Update improved the Bridge, I may be able to re-instate features I disabled on that port. That would be really neat (although I still need to make sure that those who have the Anniversary Update can still run the game).
-Some code cleanup on the game engine.

@Kes : Haha, weekly break day as a goal sounds like a good idea. xD Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one with those Force Action skills messing things up.
Yay for the tweaks and such! Hope your conditionals are all working as intented.
@Reapergurl : Hope things will get better for you, sounds stressful. D: But yay for the game going well!
@TriceratopsX : Hope you have better luck/motivation with implementing your skills than I currently have. ;)
@Marquise* : Yay for the robot!
@Lantiz : Woah, sounds like a good deal of work.
@AceOfAces_Mod : Sounds nice that you may be able to have a feature you couldn't before.
Note: If I sound weird, it's because it's actually time to sleep for me, but I didn't want to skip posting again. x")
    Yesterday's and today's progress:
    • continued preparing skills for implementation and noticed a few things I could do to make my life easier if I pay attention to them (I also need to figure out a few things like if I make all enemies immune to a status effect, if I then apply another status to them that de-immunizes (de-immunify? makes them susceptible to it, then) them, can I apply the former... Need to setup a test troop, I guess)
    • took a few notes for reordering skills in the database which is probably my way of procrastinating regarding skill implementation
    • a little bit of lore stuff here and there

    Update v.1 and likely final:

Unless Amy tells me to continue with Rift Chronicles, because I cannot get a host, it looks like we'll be shelving the project.

@Ryzler If this is so, take care of your wife, make sure she recovers well and doesn't do anything stupid to deter her recovery.

To all our supporters, many thanks. Here's to hope that in the nearer future something will come of any effort put into something.

@Celianna : As someone with a weakness for dress-up games, your screenshot made me feel excited. You project all in all looks very interesting; I guess I should give the demo a try at some point.

@Kes : Hopefully you can keep track of the dialogues: that sounds like quite a few conditional branches. It seems like you have quite a bit of experience from game-making, though, so I guess that probably isn't a problem for you, heh.

@Chiara : The 'noticing a few things I could do to make my life easier if I paid attention to them' sounds very familiar. It does feel nice to figure out an easier way to do something, though, despite the (possible) initial frustration.

@Reapergurl : It's sad to hear that you're on the verge of shelving your game. Hopefully you won't have to give up on it - or will find another project to pour your creativity into if the worst happens.

It seems like I managed to finish my goal for this week. All the characters now have their skills, and I even ended up creating animations for a few of them (because there were no suitable placeholders). I might end up adjusting the damage, costs etc. eventually when I progress further with the project, though. It's surprisingly exhausting to tweak the Lunatic mode code for the more complex skills, but it feels good to know that all the skills do something and actually work now.

Hmmm... well, I spent most of Friday working on homework, but I got a chance to work on a few things yesterday. The sprites I started are still in the sketchy/horrifying beyond all belief stage, but here's a look at a café/diner map I started on:

It's kinda basic right now, but it's a start. (Yes, there will be a background outside of the windows/doors later.) :rswt

@Reapergurl : This sounds sad, shelving the project. D: I take it the Megaman game you mentioned in an earlier post is your personal project then? Hope this continues to go well for you.
@Punamaagi : Congrats for finishing your goal! : D Even if damage, costs and other things aren't final, isn't it great to see skills do what you want them to do? <3
@Amysaurus : This looks nice! Only thing I'm noticing: Those tiny tiles (?) below the window, in non-fullview, they look a little like they're soft, somewhat protruding, like on a mattress (might just be my eyes, though, doesn't look as strongly like that on fullview). -- Ooh, those tiny cakes are a nice touch. As is the happy cactus next to the bell. Very cute. <3

    Today's progress:
    • rearranged the skills part of the database so it's more orderly with lots of space for future skills and Force Action skills; then I went through events, states and other tabs to update the skill IDs
    • while I was at it, also rearranged the items part and implemented the crafting recipes. Future goal completed!
    • implemented all of Salin's remaining skills except for one tiny thing in one skill
    • finally added in part of one skill type's functionality which I've forgotten to do for the longest time
    • implemented a basic version of Aranee's Survey skill (it's supposed to have a chance for her to notice a random item but since I'm still not sure which items she can find, I only have her find one for now) and Flashlight also works, still debating whether it needs to do damage or not
Still several of Aranee's skills and Barysh's complete skill set to be done. Among those the ones that do more complex things. But now that I've started, I'll hopefully be more strongly motivated.

Welp, looks like another Congrats across the board, as I'm too far behind to have a sane chance of catching up.

Update for the last few days:
-Started off by finishing up my Water Mage animations. All animations in that skill group are final, which means I can say that skill set is in Beta now. Now onto the Fire Mage animations. Made a list of what ones still need to be changed so I can get started on it.
-Also proceeded to remap Tall Oak. The town itself is now remapped, the surrounding forest is not. Still, it's a start.
-Finished placing NPC's and quests in Blackmire (all 1 of them). That makes one more town done.
-Placed NPC's in Clearwind. There are no side quests to be given in that town, so that makes another town done.
-Finished implementing 2 side quests in Silas Rest. One more to go before that town is done, and that quest requires I redraw an old map from 2015 that I haven't touched in a while. Also still need to place NPC's in the nearby stadium too before I can call that town done though.
-Recategorized my items and the item categories in Yanfly's Item Script. Now there's an easy way to find all potions, or all skill books, or all spell scrolls. May add more categories later, but those three were ones I found myself wanting as I playtested my game.
-Other minor tweaks that I can't remember.

@TriceratopsX I often find that it's getting the ideas for the skills which takes the time and energy, so well done for getting the concepts nailed.
@mogwai It sounds like the worst of all possible combinations. Whatever you do, you run the risk of having an upset brother. My advice (very easy to give, very difficult to follow) is to work on letting drop feeling bad about doing something that you found rewarding instead of working on a dead end.
@Marquise* Well done on doing the drive. I know it must be a bit disappointing getting less than last year, but they still got more than if you hadn't gone out.
    @Lantiz Sleep well.
@AceOfAces_Mod A Readme with bookmarks! Now that is classy.
@Punamaagi I don't find the fact that tweaking Lunatic mode is exhausting the tiniest bit surprising. In fact, I'd be stunned if it wasn't. So good for you getting it to work. Yes, I have had a fair bit of experience, so all these conditional dialogues are not as daunting as they might have been, but they are still easy to mess up if you're not very careful.
@Amysaurus Nice beginning to that map.
@Chiara I envy your re-organized data base. I'm too far into the game (about 7-8 hours gameplay at least) to consider changing it now.

    My update:
No surprise if I say "more mapping". I think I'm ready to move on to the interiors now, though there are still the 2 side areas of the town to do. The wealthy section shouldn't take very long, but the Shrine is going to be a nightmare.

@Chiara Ah, thanks! I was getting that same vibe from the tiles too - I hadn't really done much with the outline yet, which I think was the main issue. (The tiles at the top had the dark outline for contrast, but not the lower ones.)
    @Kes Thanks! :biggrin:

I don't think I'd call it done yet, but I did make quite a bit more progress on this map. I put in a background and some light fixtures, then tweaked the tiles a bit. (I'm not 100% happy with them yet, but I can live with it, lol.)

    Well, I know one thing's for sure, it's 100% blessed. :D:thumbsup-left:

Anyway.... *sigh* I really haven't gotten a whole lot done. I redid some characters because their anatomy was bugging me, and ended up redesigning them entirely. And so now, I gotta tweak my intro (or redo a big portion of it) because I changed my priestess design, and I kind of want to go for a different style now. Oh boy, Hex, you're never finishing your game....

I am just starting with game dev.

My son (who is 8 )and I have a project we'd like to use as a learning tool to pick up skills.

Currently I am spending time exploring the interface, and reading a lot on here.

So far we have decided on a plot: Help Kai find his shoes so he can go to the park. Simple, only a couple rooms. 2 quest objects: left shoe and right shoe, and the NPCs are: mom, sister, dad (that's me).

We drew out a logical flow of all the rooms, and where each show would be located. We have ideas on quests and most of it is basic discovery point/click kinda stuff.

My goal for April is for us to progress daily in our game design after work/school each day as a team father and son. No pressure or deadline. Just fun time with him and figuring our the RMMV interface.

    And it's done! :D

Thank you, I really did hahaha

Updating, I finished the game introduction and class selection for Kath.
Also added some information regarding menus and game controls.
    • Create an over world procedural map generation extension (done)
    • Comission an artist to make over world tiles for the main project (done)
    • Put together an introduction for the game (done)
    • Define monsters database
    • Start eventing the over world

@bgillisp : Sounds like quite the productive few days. 2015 -- I remember you posting the progress on a stadium back then, is it the same one?
@Kes : Don't worry, when (when, not if, self!) I get as far as you are now, it will be a total mess again, so nothing to be envious about. xD
Yay for more mapping that got done! I'm curious: are you keeping the worst (as in, most nightmarish for you to do) maps to be done for later, or in-between easier maps?
@Amysaurus : What a little value tweak can do to the perception.: D Being able to live with "not 100% happy with it" is a useful skill for getting things done. <3
@HexMozart88 : Hey, at least you did something, most probably improved in the process, and are one step closer to that one iteration you'll stick with. : D (not that this cycle is all too familiar or anything)
@fhloup : Have fun with your game project!
@Lantiz : Yay for even more things you got done! : D

    Today's progress:
    • added costs for trading to the database as a warmup -- future goal completed! (sneaking in future goals is great for my morale! x) )
    • implemented all of Aranee's remaining skills, including functionality for the Splinter! state
    • implemented the first few of Barysh's skills, including basic versions of two of his Auras (working name, functionality-wise, they're not really auras anymore) -- I'll have to see at a later date how to tweak them to make them truly useful, but for now, I'm already happy they work as intended
