Are a lot of people still using RM2k3?

By a lot, I simply mean in this forum specifically. RM2k3 holds a special place in my heart. I've always been terrible at using the features of RPG Maker, but I'm trying to learn more thoroughly this time! I'm tackling RM2k3 again and RPGMV. MV has a lot of tutorials and support for learning, but 2k3 seems pretty barren these days... Oh how I wish I could turn back the clock of time!

Does anyone know of any effective tutorial for 2k3? I have found some stuff and the 1 youtube tutorial for 2k3 but that's about all.

I've seen a few people on here using it, but I don't think a lot are. Then again, I don't know everyone here, so maybe there's more RM2k3 users than I'm aware of.

As for tutorials, I know of one channel on YT that created a bunch of them for RM2k3. have you seen these videos?

i still use it! its my favorite rm platform! while the later ones all provide greater customization there’s a surprising amount of things you can do to customize the look of things.

but yeah i’m sure there are tutorials out there, but i’d imagine most of them are old and text based and youd have to do some digging and experimenting to get things right. also a lot of the tutorials for later games can still apply to 2k3 with some tweaking

That was the YT tutorial I was talking about! I used a couple videos and I remember it being okay. I may try it again, I was just hoping for a more comprehensive one. But it'll make do if that's all there is.

I bought it this year actually! I wanted to see if i was really going to make a game or be able to mess with it, then later i bought the MV. There's a certain charm with 2k3 that i honestly like more than MV but the tutorials i found was from some years ago and they stoped doing it (the one you probably mentioned) :/ I now use mv but in the future i plan to make something with 2k3, when i (hopefully) know more stuff and do things without plugins

I agree, 2k3 has a deep charm. It really harkens back to the classic feel of super nintendo with its 16bit pixels and FF style battles.

Gotta say though, i'm brand new to MV but its really nice too. I love the new accessibility features and how much easier it is to utilize. I also like that it doesn't start up a new game with 20 billion linked and preset resources like 2k3 does. Keeps it nice and simple.

I really like how much more extensive the eventing system was in 2k/2k3, it feels cool to work within those limitations.
(That's probably how people better at coding than me feel about those virtual game consoles like the Pico)

Is it much more extensive? I was never very good with 2k3, but I am finding MV to be pretty strong with its eventing commands too. Over time I will try to learn the differences.

I agree, it certainly can be rewarding working within certain limitations because it forces you to think more creatively and adapt new strategies. Nonetheless, I find MV's ease of use, accessibility and flexibility a joy to work with.

I think one of my fav fangames was made in 2k3, "MOTHER: Cognitive Dissonance".

I would play around with it if I buy it someday, someday...

Strangely, RM2K3 is my favourite rpg maker engine and always will be along with RM2000. I guess they just hold a special place in my heart because without them I never would be where I am today marketing my own game?! Not doing too badly for my first game by any means, either. I mainly use MV but this will seize to be the case once I finish Corpse Mansion. Then I'll use MZ strictly after that.

I admittedly haven't looked into MV too closely because someone just recently purchased me a copy, but Rk3's eventing is a lot more extensive than XP's.
