Hey, I haven't been on this forum just a little bit before MV came out. You see I was working on this VX Ace game for a while. It was pretty big in terms of scope and I was pretty proud of myself for some of the cool common eventing tricks I came up with ;)  I was pretty excited about it, but at this point in time, recreating this game on MV isn't possible :(  I don't want to have to make the whole thing, only for it to never be played (not that I'm expecting loads of plays but still).

So yeah, I just want to know if people still want to play good VX Ace games, even if it is like the last gen version :D

I think people still would even if I personally wouldn't anymore. Mostly because its too small for me nowadays.

Yes, most certainly! And I'm still working on my own VXAce project.

I'd still be interested in RPG Maker 2003 games, if they were done the right way. :)  Each engine has its strengths and weaknesses, I find.  However, I think MV's seems overall the most powerful and flexible.

I am interested in any engine. I don't really like MV for some reason. I don't know why but something make me dislike MV. However, in my opinion, VX ace is great and pretty fun to play with along with a lot scripts provided by Galv, Victor, Yanfly, Yami, Moghunter and many more. But I guess that what matters is the gameplay and the story I guess.

Yes, VX ACE fine choice! :)

MV still very laggy and has too limited of graphic sets so all games on it are similar at each other and have no identity.

Still using Vx Ace here too, for same reason - started my game a year ago in Ace, and have a lot of time and money invested in custom scripts, custom sprites, Holder-style battlers for Yami's Battle Symphony, etc. Porting to MV is not possible for me at this time either.

If the game is done well, I don't think most of your audience will really mind what engine you used to make it. Support for VXAce will probably linger for quite some time, if XP still being alive now is any indication.

I don't care what it's made in, as long as it's good or fun to play. :)

I started a game in VXAce before MV came out. I'm still going to finish it in VXAce. As long as your game sounds and looks fine, I don't think many people will personally care what it's made in. I mean people still play RM2003 stuff and we all know how old that is now.

I'm still using VX Ace and actively look for interesting games to play that were made in Ace. But I'll also play games made in MV or XP or RM2003, I don't really care what was used to make it as long as the quality of the game is good and it seems interesting to me.

I don't think it matters what version it's in so long as it's well done, and fit for purpose, and fun and engaging to play. A good version does not stop being a good version just because a newer version comes out, and just because you have that newer version is no more a guarantee of quality than if you had any other version. I bought VX Ace in the full knowledge that MV was already out.

I bought it because I liked its style and because it was the most recently well-established, and I'll in all likelihood going to continue to use it for a good while, certainly until I've finished my game.

The problem is - (and I apologize unreservedly for this being a sweeping statement) - is that people go for newer versions because they are new, without necessarily considering whether or not they are actually Better. There are pros and cons to all of the RPGM software versions and MV is no exception. Personally I would stick with VX Ace and upgrade in about 12 months or so, when MV is better established...

Just going to give you a very simple answer: YES, people will still play and buy good Ace games.

Of course. No one's going to care what engine a game was made with so long as it's good. Sure, MV has advantages over ace, but they're not that substantial that any game made with ace is automatically bad now.

You can just import the graphics of ace to MV (provided you own both of them), and then use a script which changes the tile size to 36*36.

There's a tutorial for it on rpgmakerweb's youtube channel.

@JackCL Yes you can. I didn't say you shouldn't.

It's just that the disadvantage you mentioned isn't much of a disadvantage when you can fix it with minimal effort.

No. :)  If tile size 48x48 is advantage of MV Maker and you say to me - "ок, you can use 32x32 tiles" so then what is advantage of MV Maker if I anyway use old vx ace graphic? It's no sense.

What I want to say - 48x48 is advantage MV, but if we haven't new graphic packs - it's disadvantage or just not advantage. I can wait 2-3 year and then look.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
