I'm very new to RPG Maker and i have VX Ace. I'm just checking out the forums for the first time. I might not be very dedicated to making a game by myself but the music side of things might interest me more. Anyway, getting off topic. I have been thinking for the past 30 or so minute about this. Is there a way to give classes a stance? The example I've been thinking of is a martial artist class that can grapple. Once you trigger the grapple stance it would grapple with an enemy and give you a different set of skills?

Yea I'm pretty sure you can design states to act like stances.

Classes, I don't think that would work that way, classes are meant for fixed abilities.

However you could always make a skill that gives the user the stance state. You can also make a skill type called stance, and put your stances in there, so It's not in the same place as reg magic.

Also there's another way you can do it if you want to incorporate classes. You can make a skill call a common event that changes your class in battle(have that skill also turn on a switch), then make a common event require that switch on. and just make the common event change the class back, so the actor will change back to his/her normal class right after battle..

Also, you can also make it so some skills are only usable while in said stance. You can do this via formula bar or scripts. (A script will lock the skill until said state is active, formula will allow you to use said skill, but you'll waste a turn).

So yeah, just make a set of skills that require said state to suite your liking.

Just last night I put a crude "stance" system in one of my RPGs!

The main character has stances inspired by monsters from past projects I've made started. She uses a skill, which grants her a state. The state increases and decreases some stats, and also use traits to give her a couple stance specific skills. Like this, she has to use up a turn to switch stances, but there are scripts to get around that. Also with the damage formula you can apply a state to the user of an attack, and things like that, so you can have attacks that change your stance (many fighting games do this)

For example, a wolf inspired stance raises her attack and speed, while lowering her defense, while also granting her various wolf inspired attacks.

I'm considering playing with a few other traits that might feel right, like adjusting counter attack rates and such, to make the stances even more unique.

states and skill types will be a good thing to use for this...

Put grapple skills into a grapple skill type, then have the "Grapple Stance" state add the skill type to the user

I've moved this thread to VX Ace Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

If you actually want to SEE something happening on the battle screen, you'll need to search for a script as well.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
