Did not enjoy the game at all. There was a lot of confusing aspects about the game and the plot that didn't make a whole lot of sense. It feels like there were a hundred and one things going on at once that tried to meld itself all together and the end result was this. The effects are nice, however, especially on the world map, and the tilesets are wonderful. I'm always a fan of FSM tilesets!
The battle is way too overbearing. The lack of a basic Guard/Attack function makes it so that whenever your caster is Silenced from those dayum owls (which need to be toned down) you are literally left with nothing to do except waste a turn trying to Escape, which means you aren't getting EXP from battles. Either make the Silence not be 100% success rate or tone down their health a lot. My other issue with combat is there are too limited of resource items to get rid of said Silence Status effect. You only get 3 chances and after that, it becomes a slog to go through. The battles definitely need to be balanced and polished out.
Hey dude, really appreciate you giving the game a go.
I guess my error in the storytelling aspect is that this demo takes place about two hours into the game as a side-story, featuring the early-game antagonists as the main characters. Because of that, there is a lot of stuff they reference which really only makes sense if you've played an unreleased game. I don't know if this problem could be fixed by a preamble explaining that, or whether you think the story being told here is just too unnecessarily convoluted in and of itself.
As for the battles, I think I can offer two solutions. A couple of people have mentioned the Silence state is too overpowered, so here are the solutions I'm thinking of putting in:
1. Silence no longer seals your skills. Rather, it reduces the magic power, meaning that the skills are still usable, but reduced in power. In addition, the chances of being affected by it are reduced.
2. Magiel's "Reload" skill, which is basically a low-powered Esuna, is going to be renamed to something like "Reset", to make it more clear as a state-clearing ability. It is there to help deal with those owls, but because of how it's presented, it doesn't immediately seem like a healing skill.
Again, I really appreciate you taking your time to give the game a try. I am always looking to improve, so I'll take what you've pointed out and work on it
