A couple people were upset because I did not credit what 3D model I used.
The 3D world and how it works is a lot different than how resources are handled in the RPG Maker world. 3D models (the figures themselves) are tools/props used to create art, and are generally not considered 'art' themselves - though one could easily make that argument. But to put it simply, nobody credits the people who made Photoshop when they create an image in spite of the fact that those people created the tools which the art was created with.
The only model I am using these days is a base clay model that I shape and apply textures to myself (all the steam machines and buildings and stuff? I did those in 2D). I do have full rights to use it in any way that I wish. I looked up the EULA for the 3D model again (this issue came up over a year ago when I was working on the first High Fantasy bundle and a few people were generally confused/upset about the process in which I was making the resources), and for your benefit I will copy the most important section:
TERMS OF USE.
TWO DIMENSIONAL WORKS. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, User may (i) access, use, copy and modify the Content in the creation and presentation of two-dimensional animations and renderings, (ii) incorporate two dimensional images (including two dimensional images that simulate motion of three dimensional objects) derived by User from the Content in User’s other works, and (iii) publish, market, distribute, transfer, sell or sublicense User’s two-dimensional animations, renderings and other works; provided that User may not in any case publish, market, distribute, transfer, sell or sublicense any renderings, animations, software applications, data or any other product from which any Content, or any part thereof, or any substantially similar version of the Content can be separately exported, extracted or de-compiled into any re-distributable form or format.
What that amounts to basically is you can do whatever you want with the 2D renderings of the 3D model. The 2D work you create with the models is completely yours - you can sell it, license it, whatever you want - you created it, you own it. All that you are not allowed to do is use the model in any way that other people would be able to basically get the 3D model for free. Similar to Photoshop in that regard - you can make whatever you want with it, but you can't give the tool away for free. Models are tools.
I know it is a strange concept because the RPG Maker community is always stating that you must credit all sources, which is fantastic, but in this particular case there isn't really anything to credit unless I am then to also credit the people who made GIMP, my computer, etc - and that would go for everyone else as well. As for the tiles and such, I created those and most of them are not from 3D anything, and the ones that are (which are not many) fall under the same category.
