Ok, I think this merits its own topic, since it could easily get swamped with posts not related to the main info page.
For those who don't know what Arum is, come here for more information.

This topic is meant to be the official submission and reference page for countries in the map. In other words, you can see where the existing countries are and settle on where you will place yours.

Information and submission guidelines [IMPORTANT! Read before posting.]

Please keep in mind:
-This is not a final version of the map. The circles just mark the general area of the locations, not the final shapes.
-What’s shown on the map may disappear or change depending on their creator (if they abandon the project or decide to change the place).
-We will only accept locations for games that are being worked on. This means we won’t accept vague ideas and people just planting flags as they please.
-If you’re not sure where to place your game, don’t panic. If you don’t have any special needs, you can just place it wherever you want, or nowhere at all for now and leave the placement for later.
-I will update the reference image and the topic info as soon as possible, so please be patient.

Submitting a new country:
-Read other countries as an example first.
-Provide a rough location in an image (just a copy of the map here with a rough circle over the area is fine).
-Provide a name for the country (it’s fine if it’s temporal).
-Provide a few details for it (cultural/geographical details, ruling methods, whatever you want to say, but don't write a wall of text).

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!
Please submit your countries in the following format so I don't have to cut out stuff from your longer posts.

<country name>
Creator: <developer's name>
Seen in: <game title>
Details:
-<Fact1>
-<Fact 2, 3 etc>

[Please keep the details section brief and informative]

Example:
Lalaland
Creator: I'mgreatandyurnot
Seen in: Foreverunfinished
Details:
-Ruled by monkeys
-Has special hawt males on the beaches
-Whatever else.

You CAN post a more destriptive version of the country's details (as some of you ahve done already) in the post, but I ask that you provide the simplified information for the OP yourselves so I don't have to make it up from the info you give. Please Select what detials you want displayed yourselves.
Locations Map [Latest Version]
Climate Map

A note from Scinaya, our resident geographer, about climate:
"The climates are for reference and may not be definitive when it comes to small zones.
If you need a small area withinin a cold climate zone to have different climate from its surroundings, do not make extreme changes unless there's an explanation; such as magic or volcanic activity, etc.
Having a valley of temperate climate in middle of cold area is fine, as are arid areas in middle of tropics. On the other hand, tropical areas in the middle of a tundra or polar zone would need an explanation.

If you are unsure of what falls under which climate zone, here's few references and short explanations to give you the idea.

-Polar: short summers and long winters with snow and ice (some areas may not melt even during summer). To get the idea look for northern parts of Russia, Alaska, Greenland or landmasses north of the Nordic circle. Tundras and the like are prevalent.

-Cold: Winters with snow and ice, but mild or arid summers. Canada, most of Russia and Norh and East Europe are good examples of this climate zone. Pine forests are prevalent, but groves and fields are not rare either.

-Temperate: Summers are warm and winters mild. East and South Europe, US West Coast are great examples of the range within this zone. Groves and fields are prevalent and also Mediterranean climate falls under this zone.

-Dry: Common thing for dry areas is moderate or hot temperature, but the areas can vary from deserts to steppes and Savannah's.

-Tropical: Moist and hot areas. Brazil is probably best example."
Locations Information
Countries in color are final. They are from games that have been finished and as such are not part of the world.Areas in green are not countries but specially designed natural zones (such as large deserts and such).

- The numerous noble houses all hone their magic skills, perfecting their styles and forming various unique magic schools this way. Some of the ways of using magic are rarely seen anywhere else outside the more unique families. These are children who appear seemingly out of thin air after what is called a Mana Storm, where many wild rifts open across the landscape and magic is highly volatile. This has not occurred in some time, and to some is considered merely a myth as to the former queen's origins, perhaps to hide her lack of noble birth.
-Primarily a warm climate, with a jungle to the south and a small desert to the southwest. The northern territory is somewhat cooler, and is the more populated region in the country. A vast river runs down the middle horizontally to the ocean.
-Ruled by the descendants of Melantha, who have a stronger magic affinity than most in the country.

The image in the first spoiler appears to be broken. I suspect that's the map I'm most interested in seeing right now :)

Edit: I can see the image now, so if you fixed it, thank you ... and if you didn't, then just ignore this post ;)

Okay, I hope I'm not being a pain in the butt with my request, but here goes...

Originally I'd requested some top portion of that left continent. But I started a second project for the contest, and if I could have something in the area I've circled here, it would be easier to make the two projects in the same country.

Also, I'm just curious about some kind of distance scale? I'm horrible at figuring that, and I'm mainly wondering if that area would be in a reasonable traveling distance to the middle continent?

I think you can make it's a bit larger than that if it's a country, the world is huge, but there is plenty of room for you to make a slightly larger country. I would imagine if we had a scale that size for countries and such it would take a few months to travel to the center by foot. IF you want it to take just a few weeks(which sounds maybe a bit better) You may want to up-scale the distance and such.

Country: D'aigua

Leader: Emperess Ashun

Society is similar to feudal Japan as far as samurai, shoguns, etc. Main industry is fishing, crops, and wine.

A majority is in the cold region while northern reaches are in polar regions.

This is the country that my RMU / Set the Setting project (The Legacy of Vesi) is taking place in.

I have some propositions~!

The red is a country temporarily called "CHURCHVILLE~". It's a sparsely populated theocracy, with one capital city surrounded by lots of little villages and towns. It's foresty near the northern coast, but the western boarder is plainsy. There's also a volcano in the east, but it's been dormant for a long time. There are lots of temples and what not devoted to the worship of their gods, with one god being the centre of their religion. Magic use is forbidden except for those who are part of the clergy, as everyone else is unworthy of "communicating with the astral realms", regardless of whether or not they were born with the gift. If someone unworthy is caught using magic, they'll be arrested, or even executed.

Needless to say, there is a LIIIIIITTLE bit of political tension here!

As for the races who live there: Humans rule, primarily. They're darker skinned, resembling those of Indian descent. Hair colour, however, varies greatly, mostly coming in either very dark or very pale. There's also a race of draconian people -- they behave similarly to humans, and coexist with them peacefully. There'll be examples of what they look like whenever I get my game profile up. OTL

CHURCHVILLE~ is home to a plethora of magitech, such as the golems that guard shrines. This magitech is only really used by the church, and regular technological advancement is discouraged.

The green blob down south is an empire tentatively called EMPIRELAND~, but I'm not really planning on using it much! Mostly it's supposed to be a rich and mighty empire that's technologically advanced, has a rad navy, and vomits magic out of every orifice. Naturally, there are a few areas that have some pretty major rift action going on. The humans here are all black; any other races are up to whomever explores this area first, I suppose! XD It'll also be home to a kind of martial arts. It's ruled by a fairly benevolent empress, and the main religion is based less on deities, but more of a spiritual ideal.

My game ain't takin' place here, but the MC originates in this empire and it'll be mentioned more than a few times. I may go back and explore it at some point, but yeah -- if someone else would want to flesh this area out more, go right ahead. >w<d But I do need it here, since there's a looooot of mention of it in my game, at least in any MC flashbacks. It's, uhh... where the MC was right before my current project started!

Both of these are gonna show up in my project "CUSTOM GAME SYSTEM (working title)", which should be popping up in time for the contest! >w<d

Vlarencia

Vlarencia is not a country, but a collection of fiefdoms ruled over by necromantic nobles living in guarded manors and castles as the majority of their "people" toil in barely arable fields, barely surviving beyond the tribute paid to their lords. The surrounding lands between the small barely surviving villages are home to vast tracts of uncharted wilderness, all embroiled in a near persistent haze of cold clammy fog. This wilderness is home to untold numbers of horrors, preventing the common man from rising against the "protection" of their masters.

The land is charged with necromantic energies, warping a percentage of all births there into being natural necromancers, all of whom are abducted from their homes and indoctrinated into the noble class. The noble class controls all the power in the region, and would probably be a threat to neighboring countries, if not for their constant infighting.

The people of Vlarencia are humans similar to the eastern Europeans of our world, and tend to have Romanian sounding names. There are also some roaming gypsy bands, which seem to have some form of protection based on ritualistic mysticism from the naural dangers of the area.

The high mountains surrounding the region isolate it heavily from the outside world, and leaving these cursed grounds requires treks most men would never survive.

Notes: This is all from a game I'm planning to create this summer after my classes are done. If anyone wants to reference the area that is fine (help me get it permanentized before my game is done :p ) Despite the kind of selfabsorbed nature of the region, some Vlarencian necromancers do make their way to world traveling, for various reasons, and could be possible characters.

I guess you need to explain in the game how wine can be produced in that cold region. Crops could be hard to grow too. :)

It is very similar to Iceland, where hot springs make the temperature warmer and allow for Iceland to be able to do stuff that other wise won't be possible at those temperatures.

Just gonna post my location propositions for now before anyone else can jump on it. I will give some brief descriptions now but will flesh it out more when I get back.

Balaya

Creator: Rixis

Seen in: Sword King Legacy

Details:

A desert country just on the border of the harsh Masyr desert.

This country is really a unison of old smaller tribes and countries that came together to fight agaist the Northerners years ago.

The country is not really that rich, and typically stays isolated, but are pretty open to trade in times of peace.

There are many ancient ruins and highways that run through the country and holds some of the greatest

wonders and secrets of the world.

Fact* Being so close to the Masyr Desert this country is often plagued and threatened by Vicious Chimera which are known as

kings of the Masyr

Fact* Hunting Chimera is a very honored sport and profession, though there are not very many who live to tell of slaying Great

and demonic Chimera.

Norwin

Creator: Rixis

Seen in: Sword King Legacy

Details:

A northern country surrounded by mountains and is in a way isolated as there is only two recorded passages to leave the mountains area, three if you include the rivers that flow through it. It has a Climate of Both Cold and temperate in certain areas.

The country is also divided into Providences each with their own head and ruler, but the rulers come together when needing to make a national decision in times of war or crisis.

Norwin is also often threatened by Vlarencia and to them is known as the Dead lands, infact one of the two known routes that take people outside the country also leads directly into Vlarencia. Most travelers are advised to never take the Northwest route when trying to leaving the

country.

*A while back there was a war between two sides in this country, one was trying to split it up and the other to continue to keep it together. Things ended up keeping

together, but now economically the country is weak from the rebellion.

I better post this on here as well, just in case someone is thinking of reserving the location I want to reserve. I'm aiming to finish this for the contest as well, but personal issues and the scope of the game (just for a single city), I'd say it's about 3-4 months away from being finished. I'll also include some more detailed information on this post than the PM. Post updated to fit submission!

Avantaevum

Creator: Confederacy

As Seen In: Avantaevum: The Renaissance

History: Roughly 127 years ago, Avantaevum suffered a brutal civil war that caused the country to separate into four territories controlled by the The Imperium, The Kaiser's Guard, House Avvarikas, and House Sevestis. The country primarily consists of humans, however, at one point there used to be elves as well; which humans blame as the sole reason the civil war began in the first place (more on that later). Research and use of the arcane magic was popular before the civil war, but since then, it's becoming increasingly stagnant in favor of the four factions attempting to reunify Avantaevum.

Facts:

- They generally have a distrust for other races as well stemmed because of their general hatred for elves.

- Before the civil war, Avantaevum was known for having a very ferocious military, however, at the same time generally kept to themselves outside of some trade agreements and alliances.

- Despite being called The Imperium, the Imperium was not Avantaevum's original government. It was formed by remnants of Avantaevum's military and many of the noble Houses that worked with them. Only The Kaiser's Guard, House Avverikas, and House Sevestis opposed this decision.

Time to stake my claim. :)

Country name: Altea

Creator: Luchino-chan

Seen in: Land Of Silence ( still have to get the topic up )

Details: A temperate, very low-tech country located to the south-east of Churchville. ( I wanna be Emmych's neighbour ^^ ). Annual rainfall is extremely

high, which makes for a densely forested, lush country. Because it is a very small country, it does not take very long to traverse, depending on

what the route the traveller takes, but many opt to go through the Taliesin Forest located south-east of the capital.

Fact 1: Highly spiritual, the majority race here are known as the Valni, and thrive on magical energy to survive, which emanates from a series of

breakages known as the Rifts.

Fact 2:The Valni believe it is their right to magic and magic alone, and they believe it was passed down to them from their successor, after whom they

are named.

Fact 3: They are currently under threat from the rapidly growing human population. Contact with humans weakens their spiritual energy, and it is

said that the Valni and human beings cannot co-exist with human beings.
Nothing here is concrete, it will probably change over time.

Astreia

Creator: Archeia_Nessiah

Seen in: Astral Craft

For the OP~

- Home of all kinds of Craftsmen. Mostly Alchemists.

- Dry/Cold/Tropical weather, mountainous terrain and broken down in waters.

- Monster population average-high (dangerous)

Details: Located near the southern polar region, Astreia's climate can be called unforgiving and ever changing. Homeland of Alchemists and Craftsmen. Astreia is said to be a paradise for researchers for its different kinds of life form and rock formations.

Fact 1: Astreia is where a phenomena called the "Hollow Earth" exists. A tunnel that leads to the depths of the earth without obstruction. Nobody has seen the exact entrance and this is the main reason why adventurers are gung-ho and dig right in.

Fact 2: The living conditions of Astreia is not for the weak. It changes from hot to freezing cold almost spontaneously. The plants are not normal as they have adapted to the extreme bizarre weather conditions of the area. Alchemists are studying what could be the cause of it.

Fact 3: Astreia is a land for all kinds of crafts that is related to science. This involves craftsmanship and alchemy as the biggest influence. Astreia is the area where there is a 95-99.9% chance you'll find a cure for any sickness, and at the same time a biological weapon to kill masses...maybe. This is one of the famous rumors that surround Astreia due to its bizarre habitat.

Fact 4: Astreia is said to have dragons. They're unsure.

Well, that took way longer than I was expecting :I

It seems my template was misunderstood, I apologize if it wasn’t clear, added an example to clarify things a bit.

I replied to everyone, so please look for yourself down there.

[i posted this reply first, so give me a few minutes to add the changes to the OP.] Editing finished!

Please make sure you check your map locations and country descriptions and tell me of any changes you need.

@Shaz: I had no problems with the link, which leads me to believe that some people have trouble with the HOST. I changed it and now it seems to work fine :3

@mlogan: The country location is fine, but I’d need the name and other details to fill it out. (Nvm! I see you posted the details before I could post this XD)

Added. Nice, you made the details yourself correctly. Thanks ;-;

I don’t know how scaling and distances work, but since you are not the only one to ask, I’ll talk to Scinaya (our geographer) and see if we can work something out.

@Psyker: Added. Are you SURE you want to place a Japanese setting in the arctic? I mean…as far as I know (I could be saying any sort of BS now) Japan is relatively non-extreme in climate. It seems like a bit of a strange mix. (Mostly the clothing and architecture is all wrong).

@Emmych: Added, but TOO MANY FACTS ; ; I put some in the details description, but do tell me if you want something else to go there, since I was kind of arbitrary.

As for Empireland, it may be a bit….large in the map, even more so if you say you won’t use it much. If it causes no trouble, that’s fine, but there may come a point where we may have to reduce its size to accommodate other countries.

For now, it shouldn’t pose a problem.

@Touch: What I told Emmych. Big areas T-T

For now it won’t be a problem, but I discourage claiming huge areas (UNLESS you really fill it all out with stuff and maps, in that case I will say nothing).

Anyway, added it. Please check the details for any adjustments needed.

Also please provide a temporary game title when you can.

@Rixis: Added. Check the details for fixes and such. Please provide a temporary game title when you can.

Also…”providences”? Did you mean provinces, maybe? o_O

@Confederacy: Added. Please check the details for fixes.

@Luchino: Rofl, Seiken Densetsu 3 flashbacks XD Do they have crimson mages too?

Shortened the details section, was too long. Anyway, added. Please check for fixes.

@Archeia: Added. Already talked to you, so it should be fine :3

@Indrah - I understand that seems to be a weird location. As stated to Physeter, I feel it is acceptable to having hot springs or something similar to Iceland's environment for main areas. While main cities, temples, etc are located near hot springs, there is the cold environment throughout the country also. If this isn't acceptable within the Arum environment then I can change locations even though I would prefer not to as I have quite a bit done in my project already.
