I decided to purchase RPG Maker MV on steam the other day and decided I wished to embark on the grand adventure of making my very own RPG. Sure I'm packing up the house and moving to Oregon at the end of the month and that money would probably have been better spent on gas, but while going through all of my old papers I found folder after folder of notes for pencil and paper RPGs that I played with my friends and campaigns we never got around to and I just felt inspired. It might have been a flash of stupidity, but I figured I'm stupid enough to give it my best try. Sure back in the day I remember trying to make my own campaigns in Age of Empires and Warcraft III and never got the triggers to work right, but I am determined to use the collective pool of human knowledge known as the internet to pull me through the learning curve.
Starting with the easy stuff: characters (actors), equipment, items, planning out the story and dialogue, and locations, and all the other things that don't involve scripting or tedious hours spent designing every corner of every dungeon. I have a lot of ambitions and I've got the time to see them come to fruition - even if I don't currently possess the skills.
So if you see me around asking questions that either make no sense, or questions that even novices know the answers to, just know I'm here as much for the experience of creation and the joy of actually stepping up and doing something which has long intimidated me.
And who knows, one day it might be a worthy enough project to sell on steam or... eh who am I kidding?
