Really started to enjoy the play through, but I defeated the Chimera and none of the people in town are responding to the victory. Here are some observations I wrote down as I played:
I noticed in the swamp that some of the tree tiles were cut off, and it looks like the foliage is sliced off without continuing into a full tree. There is also an issue with transfers, since you don't seem to move the player one tile away from the entrance and exit of maps, so if I move left or right after transferring I am sent back the previous map.
Right now I can say the dialogue of the game feels nice and natural. That isn't something I see very often with projects under development.
The icon set with the atmosphere and the dark fantasy feel doesn't work since the RTP style is too saturated and colorful.
Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to progress past the chimera battle. Reporting back to town everyone is still asking me to kill it. I saw some other people in the swamp, but I only actually interacted with a dead body for a potion.
I am starting to have the idea of skills upfront grow on me. The seldom potions that increase energy by 5 hidden around are a good idea that is making me explore more, but the battles themselves aren't encouraging me to grind when I have so little money and there are a large amount of status items to buy. I attempted to upgrade my equipment, but the stores have basically the same stock as the characters.
I've enjoyed Nail, and for the atypical bad ass he isn't flat or boring. He seems motivated by his freedom, though I don't know why he was being detained to begin with nor was it explained. The paladin is rather understanding and nurturing for a pointed babysitter. Everyone seems to respect Nail, and ultimately caves into his decisions though they admit they are rash and impulsive. Anrid doesn't seem to be a big player in battle, as her elemental resist feature is never needed from what I experienced, but it is one of the higher costing skills she can use at first. Even the witch fight didn't force me to use it to reduce damage, and seems to only function on herself.
Kaden is a completely different type of fighter from Nail, and has a much more regal feel to be him. They seem to get along well for being total polar opposites.
I believe you did a good job with characterization of the brothers, but the paladin Anrid falls a bit short with her "Nail, don't you do the thing. Oh Nail! You're making us do the thing again! You are a wild card. I am going to chew the scenery some more. I exist!" If she didn't have the capacity to revive and heal I'd wonder why she was along at all.
I read the books, but I am still confused from the lore as the info dump didn't really do much but put names in my face. Could you maybe make it illustrated somewhat to show some of the named characters you are referencing in the world?
Overall for 30 mins spent playing I am very pleased. I'll attempt to go further with it, but I must have missed an event somewhere in the swamp. Also the "We need to go around" event didn't trigger until the second visit to that first map.
