Greets all. I'm an old school Dungeon Master. I remember when RPG Maker first came out it was revolutionary for bringing to life so many custom role playing games. Good to see it continues to command attention. As an autism parent my time is limited so it limits me to creating coded games from home.

Welcome! I always enjoy finding other parents around here. :D (Makes me feel not so old :p )

I know my own kids leave me little time for game dev, I can only imagine having one with special needs. But hang out here and ask for help when you need it.

Actually, I have 3 of them, 2 of which keep me house bound. I wrote an article about how RPGs help those on the spectrum. It might be something you will like to share here for the benefits. Where will be a good place to put that?

Welcome to the forum! My older brother is on the spectrum and he likes playing with RM time to time, too. He especially likes messing with damage formulas. :)

I hope you find something fun here on the forum. The article could probably be posted in General Lounge, but depending on its contents it might fit in General Discussion as well. All sections have some guidelines within them, so if your check you can gauge which is a better fit. :)

Greetings @GameWriter ! Always great to see fellow DMs and fellow parents. Maybe you can share your time management secrets as well...I barely get time to play with RM with one 9-month-old! ;) (But forums are easier to sneak in.) Welcome to the forums!

Ms Littlefish, I posted it here: Autism & Roleplaying | RPG Maker Forums. May I ask the age of your brother?

Llareian, thank you for the welcome. Time management with autism is life altering... I have adjusted so much of my life to cope I am no longer the same person I used to be.

My brother is 31, but he wasn't diagnosed until he was 22. He's high functioning but he's just always been my brother. He's very bright but needs a lot of warming up to talk very much.

He's a big guy. My boys are all the opposite, they are hyper verbal so my ears are ringing sometimes.

My son isn't on the spectrum (that I know of) but as someone with a son and busy life I understand the limits to RM time. Welcome to the forums!

One of my good friends, and my team's musician, is on the spectrum. She likes messing around with RM as well! She was diagnosed when she was young, but seems to be high functioning - apart from a few social skills.

Welcome! *waves*

Welcome, and try to have a productive time. I haven't seen any signs that any of my own children have autism but as an autistic parent I just want to commend you and all family members who care enough to adapt to the needs and struggles of a loved one whose brain doesn't function 'normally' from a cultural perspective. I don't know how my mom did it after my dad died back when it was culturally acceptable to write kids like that off as undisciplined punks and though I myself have learned to adapt to a lot since that time sometimes I wonder how my own family manages to deal with me or how I convinced my poor wife to even try to in the first place.

My brother is autistic as well, although I don't know much info about it seeing as I don't have any contact with him. He's 7 years old, and has never had a conversation with me in the few times I've visited. He only started talking in single words around the age of 4, and goes to a special needs school where apparently he doesn't talk to others.

Autism is always so broad, and unique to everyone I feel.

I'm actually writing about a character in my game who's has aspergers, but it's never mentioned.

My friend was diagnosed autism since she's 9. Now she can't really look into other's eyes on court, yet a damn good lawyer in my hometown. You just can't win her in any debation. So yeah, autism or not, skill is skill XD

That's right, people confuse autism with a lack of intelligence or ability.

If you ask a lot of successful people they'll likely tell you they have a form of autism, so you never know?
Welcome aboard!

Welcome from yet another parent with some experience on the matters of autism myself, (been diagnosed for some years now though only mildly and a bit paradoxical). :D

Thank you kindly. It is good to see so many familiar with and experiencing this in their lives as it relates to RPGs.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
