Story:
Tired of doing chores "literally" all the time (and literally tired from staying up past bedtime so much), Avery grumpily trudges up the dawn-lit hill behind her rural home. A quest to pick berries for Grandma's pie turns into a trip through the mind of a kid struggling to understand what "growing up" should look like.

Explore colorful forests, spooky temples, winter wonderlands, ancient civilizations, and even outer space as you seek a way back to "normal." Along the way, Avery meets the four idols of her childhood dreams -- Quin, Saylor, Emma, and Ferra -- and they happily agree to safeguard her journey. Cloyingly wholesome lessons ensue, but someone is out there scheming, trying to teach Avery the painful way ...

Gameplay: This is a story/character-driven project (so far), and could use help in the functionality department. Planned features include:
  • Exploration of hugely diverse maps, with plenty of collectables
  • On-screen obstacles and enemies to avoid -- no random battles or pointless leveling/grinding/equipment (Equipment and levels exist, but are more meaningful.)
  • A row- or grid-based battle system where every battle matters
  • The occasional minigame or chase scene to mix things up

Positions/Roles Needed:
High Priority:

  • Battle system programmer
  • UI/interface
  • General plugin helper-outer
  • Animated party battlers (filled)
Medium -- Would Be Nice:
  • SFX -- battle animations, cool map overlays (like glowing orbs flitting around a forest)
  • Character sprite artist (filled)
Low -- But Hey, I'll Take the Help:
  • Mapping
  • Music -- I'm happy with the free stuff I've found, but I wouldn't mind a few originals ... and I have the crazy idea of having a few vocal songs since one of the party members is a singer (filled)

I've been solo developing, so ... everything? However, I'm lucky to have come across great free assets from the community as well as a lovely artist on Fiverr.

My comfort zones are writing, marketing, and creativity (i.e. world-building). Guess I'm a bit of a rarity around here. (Terrible programmers unite!)

If you're looking for a trade, here are my strong suits in descending order:
  • Dialogue writing
  • Story and world building
  • Editing and quality control
  • Marketing
  • Basic eventing
  • Mapping
  • Basic RTP graphics edits in GIMP (recoloring, frankenspriting)

I had zero plans to bring on a music expert, but in a plot twist I got an offer I couldn't refuse.

Hi!

I vaguely remember seeing your game's thread once and thinking it looked promising.

Indeed, my biggest needs right now are probably with customizing the battle mechanics and the game's various UIs. I have my ideas in place, but have avoided implementing anything custom yet because i lack programming skills.

I'm happy to chat about what you're looking for, both in terms of you helping my team and me helping yours. I think I'm a pretty good dialogue writer, but you'd have to clarify the "eventing" part of your comment. I can handle the basics in MZ, but can't event a shuffleboard minigame or anything crazy like that haha

I could help you make your sprites tall, if that is something you still need. Did you have a particular tall base you wanted to use?

Hi!

I remember seeing your "kimono person" sprite -- great stuff.

I recently finished up overhauling my main party in GIMP. I made them through extreme frankensteining of existing assets -- they look mostly alright, but could use some TLC and tall-ifying. I'd be thrilled if you wanted to help.

Are you looking for a skill trade of some kind?

Edit: Never fully answered your question about the base. I love Tonbi's tall-sprite work, but there are other great ones I've seen too. Your input is welcome here.

I would like to help, I usually use Hiddenone's template since its less work considering you can use the same heads, but I don't mind trying my hand at any of the other templates, personally my favorites are wayward's and tonbi's as well. I can edit a few behavior animations if you need those too, or did you just need walking sprites?

As far as a skill trade if you would be open to helping me with my own project in the future that would be awesome, but even if not I would still like to help. I would mostly like help with mapping and maybe help with some dialogue, my project is still in the early stages though.

I'm curious, how many hours in RPG Maker do you have? I'm clocked in at 2100 hours on MV and the vast majority of it is for one game. I wish I could track how much I used XP back in the day, I was on it a lot.
