Backgrounds: Image Based instead of Tile Based

Is there a way to set up MV so that I can use a large png/jpg/etc with collision and not use tiles?

This is so I can hand illustrate BG maps and not use tiles.

Try searching for the keyword "parallaxing" on these forums and you will find some good answers. Collision is a bit different, since the game will still be tile-based, even if it doesn't seem so. To change this, you'll need a pixel movement / free movement plugin.

Well I think I can draw a background that "looks" organic but has invisible tiles that determine the walkable paths using tile collision. 

My understanding of parallax was like mountains moving in the background while trees in the foreground move quicker. (I am thinking nes side scrollers)

Is parallax in this sense something I need a plugin for MV?

Yep, this is how parallxing works. In this case, you would also move (part of) the palms to their own layer, so they can be displayed above the characters.

Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
