Introduction

So I am a huge fan of Robin and the “ritual” of a character becoming a Robin has always interested me. I’m working on this game where you play as the next Robin (you can mold his backstory) and the game hilights all the major turning points in your relationship with Batman.

PS: If you look in the archive, I worked on an early draft of this like two years ago. That was scrapped and this is a whole new game.

Game Synopsis

The streets of Gotham run red with your parents blood and you are taken in by Gotham’s protector. You live out key points in a new Robin’s career.

Levels

This is a list of the levels currently completed:
Streets of Gotham (Intro/Tutorial): This part goes over the basics of combat, gives the background, and explains a bit of what “interrogation” combat is.

The Cave: After being taken in, you are tossed in a dark cave with only a flashlight and told to survive by Bruce. Your training begins.

The Manor: Kind of more of a scene than a level, it shows the passage of time and sets up your first mission as robin.

Burnley Medical Center (75% done): Your first mission. Collect evidence on the gang who is making the new “Snake Bite” drug and using this abandoned hospital as their base. No combat until the end. Still adding evidence. Has a cool little passworded elevator system.

Mechanics

There are two types of combat: Normal and interrogations.
The first is normal physical combat. This game uses consumable ammo to fuel “gadget” abilities. Martial arts abilities consume energy (TP, not in yet).

The second kind, interrogations, are done on bosses after they have been defeated. You must use items you found in the level to cause psychological damage to them (scripted battle at % of HP. Immune to all non “psychological” damage types which are caused by items that are consumed on use). This is done after you defeat a boss and helps advance the plot. To that end, you do have “Interrogation” techniques you can use but they cost Patience (MP) if you run out- you will soon lose the fight (as they deal psychological damage back)!

Accessories have been replaced with “styles” that serve to represent the martial art styles you use. They give you access to your martial arts techniques.

Oh and for fun, currently isn’t money but Batman’s “Respect”.

Classes

Classes are currently in development and need to added in. A lot of them are done but you just can’t access them in the game yet (though I test combats with Detective and Acrobat).

Acrobat (Ala Dick Grayson): High evasion, dual wield, multi-hitting light attacks, and some fun quirky banter. There are areas in levels that only you can reach due to a unique “jump” you get.

Detective (Ala Tim Drake): Great in interrogations, SOME evidence in the levels get a small animation showing you where they are, reduced psychological damage, debuffer, not as skilled in hand to hand.

Street Punk (Ala Jason Todd): Great in hand to hand, high damage, terrible in interrogation (low patience so get that evidence!), excellent multi target.

Assassin (Ala Damian Wayne): Great single target damage, some questionable techniques, etc.

Metahuman (Original): I am still fleshing this one out. Currently you get fire based “magics” that cost TP.

Critiques

Totally welcome and encouraged. Rip it apart. (Not spelling however, I just had my editor buddy go over it with me and I am still updating a lot of stuff).

Game Genre: RPG

This is a fun little RPG with a few mechanical twists.

Game Flavours:

Modern, Horror (A little), and if I can add “Superhero”?

Scripts

Yanfly’s: Core Engine, Battle Engine, Equip Engine, Victory Aftermath script, and Visual Battlers.

Also, Asagi’s Gun License.

And I am totally spacing on the name of the Lighting Script I am using...

Status

Development: About 25%

Playtime: 20 min (Dev. Speedrun)

How Can You Help?

I want to make a female Robin (no sprites...) and I could probably use a better batman sprite. He looks kinda pudgy. Also, I totally need a batmobile sprite.

Controls

Normal. However, remember to save when you can (in the cave). Grab the flashlight or you are going to have a bad time... (it’s an item you can use).

Planned Areas

So some areas I plan on doing:

Mentor: You go on a mission with your mentor. Each one is different an shows you about the unique skill your class has. Acrobat is about jumping all around, detective is an evidence/interrogation mission, etc.

Training: You go on a training mission. You can go with Lady Shiva and learn to kill, Wild Cat and learn boxing, or even Green Arrow to learn archery. I have a few more styles you can learn from Bruce.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
