Hi Guys.  I'm new to VX ace, and I'm having trouble finding a solution to my problem.

In my game, i want to have specific animation that go with specific weapons.  i assumed it was a default setting, but i think I'm missing something.  The characters that I've equipped with weapons still use a default attack animation.

What am i forgetting to do?

Did you set the proper animation for each weapon?

Is your Attack skill (ID 1) set to "Normal Attack" under animation? (That way it checks the animation of the weapon equipped)

I'm not sure how to tell if the attack is set properly.  I made different attack animations and then i set each one (in the skills menu) to have a different attack.  **looks like I'm gonna have the Cat out of the bag a bit**

my attacks are music based, so weapons are instruments and normal attacks are vocals.  I tried to make 2 normal attacks in the skills list so I could assign them like so:

normal attack = Rap Verse for one character

Normal attack = Guitar Chord for the character with a weapon (Guitar)

does this help, or am i explaining it wrong?

You're being confusing with this part.

If you're having various weapons playing different animations, then you only need the default Attack skill. (ID 1)  The animation on this skill should be set to "Normal Attack" which will check the Hit Animation of the weapon being used. Then go to the Weapons section of the database and set the Hit Animation of each weapon desired. (All the different animations you created)

Your guitar weapon will have the Hit Animation "Guitar Chord" and your other character's weapons would have "Rap Verse"

Nooooooo, fix back skill ID 1 (Attack) to the way it was normally and it should work fine. You do not need to create a whole new skill.

Try to edit your posts instead of double-posting.

Just open a blank project and copy-paste the database contents of whatever you need.

Don't ever edit Skill 1 and 2, since the engine by default uses Skill 1 as ATTACK, and Skill 2 as GUARD... don't edit some of the default states too, especially state 1, which is Death state...

thanks for all your help. I can see that I'm going to have to refresh some of my source folder.

I think before I do that I'll try using those commands in all caps first. maybe that's my problem. I'll let you guys know late tonight if it worked it out. I'm going to take my wife out to dinner.
