I'm still confused on what's going on, but I'll keep this short.

^^^ This is what it looks like whenever a battle encounter happens to my project... however as you can see, it didn't take any background picture as the background in-combat. It just looks like what it was before the encounter happened, blurred out as the background.

Now, I have already found a workaround but I do not like how its done. I can "specify" the background by editing it via "Map Properties" but I do not want one single battle back for the whole map. It looks like this:

I think this is an issue of options I tweaked some where and for some reason I can't find the source, or in the plugins. I tried disabling plugins to see if these were the causes, but I didn't find any.

To troubleshoot, I decided to make a new project and made an encounter event with a newly-created enemy, and it works like I wanted - displaying the battle back I wanted just by selecting the desired choice in the database, which doesn't work in my actual project.

Here are my plugins, just in case that it is indeed the source of the problem:

This might be a noob mistake since I am a beginner, but I am trying my best to understand how to use RPG Maker. Help is really appreciated.

TL;DR: Battle encounters do not show desired battle back, game decides to use a screenshot of the game before encounter and use it as its own battle back.

I believe that the world map is the only one that gives you a battle back based on terrain. You have to select the battle back for other map types. As for world maps, I think YEP Core does something to this default functionality that gives you the screen snapshot instead. There's probably a plugin parameter that needs to be changed to revert to the normal default. I'm fairly certain I've had the auto-backgrounds with YEP plugins before.

Try going into map properties (Edit on your map), and turning on "Specify Battleback" for that entire map. You can change it from there! You can give a non-permanent test to what your battleground looks like by going into troops and playing around with the "Change BG" setting.

Hope thats what your looking for! Frank

Edit: Ok, i missed the point of this question, MB...

You can go into common events, and theres an option called "Change Battle Back..." on the third page, top right of event commands.

You can make a event grab a random number, and whatever number you grab, you switch it to that battle background.

Heres the event you'll probably want to use:

Int RandomNumber = (random gen number between 1-100)

(If: Random Number <= 25) " If a random number is between 1 and 25"
Battle Background 1
(If: Random Number > 25 AND <= 50)" If a random number is between 26 and 50"
Battle Background 2
(If: Random Number > 50 AND <= 75)" If a random number is between 51 and 75"
Battle Background 3
(If: Random Number > 75 AND <= 100)" If a random number is between 76 and 100"
Battle Background 4

Most random number generators create numbers between 0 and 99 (100 numbers), if that happens, just put +1 on you generated number and youll be set!

You call this every time you want a player to fight something. Im not sure if you can make it where whenever a random encounter is called, this event calls first... so youll have to make your own "Random Encounter" common event if this happens.

You can make it a separate event, or you could use the "Battle Proccessing" Option to call a specific troop you want to assign the random number to.

If you dont want four options, make sure the first option is <=, and the second option follows > AND <= for the min number and max number. Continue with however many options you want!

Full circle now, Hope that helps! Frank (Again) lol

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
